Ender’s Game and Escape Plan double down on the TV spots, Hercules takes a moment to reflect with her minions, Ant-Man looks for a lead, Oldboy shows off the villain, The Grand Budapest Hotel fulfills a prophecy, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty puts my heart through a ringer!
Ender’s Game has a couple new TV spots today, and I think they do a nice job with certain aspects of the film. One issue I’ve had with the marketing thus far is the amount they’re showing, but they’re mainly showing the big, flashy CGI moments, rather than a lot of the more interesting parts of the book, which are what have made it last so long in the first place. So the main thing they’re pushing is the idea of what happens to a young man if he’s pushed to be a soldier, leader and hero too early in his life. It’s actually fascinating to think about, and the film seems to be getting it right. I think it’s also bringing in aspects from some of the other books Orson Scott Card wrote set in the same universe, and those will undoubtedly make an impact on the film as well. So good TV spots today.
Escape Plan actually looks a little MORE standard that I already thought it was going to be. For a time I thought it would be a film about Stallone and Schwarzenegger looking cool and hatching an overly clever plan to get out of an unbreakable prison, but it’s even dumber than that, with basic action sequences thrown in for essentially no reason that I can make out. So I’m REALLY looking forward to it now.
Hercules has a new photo today from the set that shows The Rock standing victorious at some battle with his men. He still looks like a giant, but it’s nice to see tehy’ve put in some time and effort into the sets, which actually look pretty decent. Not bad at all. Truly.
Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man is supposed to be coming out in a little under two years, and the script is ready, and it should start shooting soon, only Marvel and Wright have yet to find their Ant-Man. Two top contenders right (or Wright) now (DID YOU GET MY JOKE?) are Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd. I feel like they’re both good choices, and give an idea of the type of hero that’s being created for Ant-Man, as he’ll be nerdier than the rest of the Avengers, who are generally more buff and badass than puny Ant-Man. I support the film with either man cast.
Or I can play it. I’m good too.
Oldboy has a couple new photos today that finally showcase Sharlto Copley’s villainous Adrian Pryce. Also, that is one horrible scar. On the plus side, he might be nailing the chick in the second photo, which would make it all worthwhile cause DAMN.
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Grand Budapest Hotel has a new poster that is more Wes Andersony than pretty much anything I’ve ever seen. I like Anderson well enough, and I’m sorta halfway looking forward to this, but at the same time there’s something about him that annoys the nuts out of me, and his fans can be grating. Also, he should stop playing with dollhouses. It’s not cute anymore.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has a new international today that is sorta sad, but it becomes sorta pathetic, and finally is uplifting. I’m uplifted, and that’s not just the drugs talking. Okay, it’s 99% the Bohemian Rhapsody that uplifted me. I’m not on drugs. Not even alcohol. Yet. THE DAY IS YOUNG AND I’M IRISH/HAVE A PROBLEM.
