The MIchael J

Michael J. Fox plays Michael J. Fox in The Michael J. Fox Show, much to the delight of Michael J. Fox fans worldwide, who grew up watching Michael J. Fox play a slightly younger Michael J. Fox in movies starring Michael J. Fox.

Michael J. Fox.

Okay, yes, the Back To The Future star is back to acting and being all-around likable in the new NBC single-camera sitcom where he basically plays himself. Is it going to work, or will he pull a Matthew Perry? It’s hard to tell now, but from what we know so far, it looks promising.

The Setting

Popular and beloved Michael J. Fox Henry put his soaring acting news-anchoring career on hold to focus more on his wife and kids, after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Now, after five years of staying at home and annoying his ever-maturing kids, he has grown restless and is ready to get into acting news-anchoring. And thus, he returns to the network where he first gained success as a sitcom actor news-anchor.

The Cast

Michael J. Fox as Mike Henry.

Betsy Brandt as Annie Henry, Mike’s wife. I like her in Breaking Bad and I’m glad she’s in this. She has great comic timing and I will be looking forward to seeing her in the show.

Katie Finneran as Leigh Henry.

Wendell Pierce as Harris Green, Mike’s Boss. You might remember him from The Wire, where he played Detective Bunk.

Conor Romero as Ian Henry.

Juliette Goglia as Eve Henry.

Jack Gore as Graham Henry.

Airing On

From September 26 this year, it’ll be on Thursdays 9:30/8:30c.

The Scoop

Fox talked to Access Hollywood about the show, and here’s what he had to say:

It’s weird. It’s like deja vu — back to the future. But it’s really exciting, I’m really happy with the show, I’m happy with our timeslot and I’m just thrilled to be back. As I move through the streets [on the show], people know me and I know them. It’s a little bit of my life reflected.

On his relationship with his on-screen wife:

There’s a similar kind of relationship, I think, to what I have with Tracy. It’s real easy. Like our two characters give each other the benefit of the doubt and are kind of comfortable with each other and she’s comfortable with the stuff I’m dealing with and I’m comfortable with the fact that she has to deal with it, it’s really great. It’s fun.

What’s good about it

The trailer looks good, and the cast is strong. They’ve got a charismatic lead who is loved by almost everyone, it’s hard to screw up from there.

What’s Bad About it?

I’m not sure if the concept has enough juice to keep it going for multiple seasons. I mean, at some point the fact that Fox is back to acting will stop being endearing and it’ll just be another show that’ll have to stay based on its writing.
