The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second film in the Hunger Games series. This time the tributes come from past winners, meaning Katniss must reenter the Hunger Games. I read the Hunger Games books, and they just got dumber and dumber. Basically the idea here is that the evil Capitol isn’t happy that Katniss is spreading dissent and has become a symbol of the rebellion, so as punishment they’ve set up a new edition of The Hunger Games that takes a selection of winners from former games and pits them against one another.

Katniss goes in, kicks some ass and takes at least 2 names. Just kidding, she stumbles her way through yet another adventure, somehow surviving and we all pretend that makes her a strong female. Blah blah blah… menopause.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will not be directed by Gary Ross, who directed the first film. Rather, Francis Lawrence will be taking the reins. He directed Constantine and I Am Legend, so he has an eye for visuals and does a good job with action.

Who’s In It?

Jennifer Lawrence … Katniss Everdeen
Jena Malone … Johanna Mason
Josh Hutcherson … Peeta Mellark
Liam Hemsworth … Gale Hawthorne
Elizabeth Banks … Effie Trinket
Woody Harrelson … Haymitch Abernathy
Philip Seymour Hoffman … Plutarch Heavensbee
Stanley Tucci … Caeser Flickerman
Willow Shields … Primrose Everdeen
Donald Sutherland … President Snow
Toby Jones … Claudius Templesmith
Lenny Kravitz … Cinna
Latarsha Rose … Portia

What’s Good About It?

The first film was said to be quite satisfying for fans of the series, and with that template already set in place I expect the second to make boatloads of moolah.

What’s Bad About It?

The stories of these books leaves a hell of a lot to be desired. CRAP CRAP CRAP.

Our Clever Prediction

I expect The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to essentially print money. The first, which was a turd sandwich, made a ton, and there’s little to no reason the second shouldn’t enjoy the same level of success, if not more as they’ll have even more money for marketing this time around.

  1. I saw the Catching Fire trailer today at the theater when I went to see Breaking Dawn part 2. When the flaming Mockingjay appeared on the screen we all went crazy in the theater. I can’t wait for Catching Fire to come out. BTW, Breaking Dawn was great!
