The Hunger Games (2012)

The Hunger Games is an adaptation of the book by Suzanne Collins, which takes place in a dystopian future where children are forced to become gladiators and kick some bootay. Booo-Tay.

The US has collapsed as a result of famine, war, fire, and plague. Or pestilence. Hmmm…? A little Apocalypse, anyone? Anyways, a new nationstate has arisen like a phoenix from the ashes: The Panem. The Panem divides the country into a capitol and 12 districts. Every year two young representatives from each district are selected to take part in the Hunger Games, which is literally a gladiator fight to the death. With kids.

When 16 year old Katniss’ little sister Prim is selected to be their district’s representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. The other representative from her district is Peeta, the son of a local baker. Neither are skilled at fighting. They enter the Hunger Games, where they face off with opponents who have been training for this their whole lives. And no doubt they win, cause this sounds ridiculously stupid.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games will be directed by Gary Ross, who wrote and directed Seabiscuit and Pleasantville. Those were both dystopian science fiction movies, right? Oh, no. They weren’t. This’ll suck. Collins has cowritten the screenplay, so it should at least be true to her book.

They haven’t cast the part of Katniss yet, but the frontrunner has been Jennifer Lawrence, who was just recently nominated for her role in Winter’s Bone. She actually sounds like a good choice. Alex Pettyfer is rumored for the part of Peeta. I suggest Drew Barrymore for BOTH ROLES.

Who’s In It?

Jennifer Lawrence… Katniss
Josh Hutchinson… Peeta
Liam Hemsworth… Gale Hawthorne

What’s Good About It?

I really enjoyed Winter’s Bone, and Jennifer Lawrence is all kinds of hot. If she keeps that babelicious body toned, she could be the next Scarlett Johansson.

What’s Bad About It?

The story sounds stupid. Perhaps it’s well written. I’ll try to get around to reading it soon. I promise.

Our Clever Prediction

It depends. If Lawrence is in the lead and the film has a good visual style, it might be a big hit. Probably not, but Hollywood likes to try to make a female action lead from time to time. And once in a while it works out.

  1. whoever wrote the information up top, please read the book then come back and clean up your info. Also, not to be rude or anything, but it’s usually a good idea to read a book before saying it isn’t good.
