Following on the footsteps of movie studios, Syfy has released the first fifteen minutes of the premiere of its upcoming show, Helix. It’s created by Ron Moore, the guy behind Battlestar Gallactica. Here’s the premise:
“Helix” is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that may hold the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation. However, the lethal threat is just the tip of the iceberg, and as the virus evolves, the chilling truth begins to unravel.
The video begins with a dreary scene at research facility, with two men in suit surveying the remains of a place where something has gone horribly wrong. We then get our first look at the effects of the deadly virus. After the cold open, we then meet our main characters, and the requisite exposition about the back-stories comes in the next ten minutes. The production value looks good, but the dialogue needs some work. The premise looks interesting, but I’ll need to see more before deciding if it’s worth following. The cast looks alright, except Jordan Hayes, who looks fiiiiiiine.
What do you think of the footage? Did it interest you? Or do you think this is just another zombie show in the making? Tell us below in the comments!
The show will premiere on January 10, and stars Billy Campbell, Hiroyuki Sanada, Kyra Zagorsky, Mark Ghanime, Jordan Hayes, Meegwun Fairbrother, Catherine Lemieux, and Neil Napier.
