Popeye (2012)

Popeye is, in case you’re a moron and couldn’t guess, another animated adventure in the Popeye the sailor’s long history.

Details are being kept secret at present, but it is known that Bluto, Olive Oyl, and Swee’Pea will all be in the new movie. Also, the film’s themes will be friendship, love, greed, and life.

And there will be spinach.

Wouldn’t that be a funny Popeye movie? There will be Blood, except with spinach and Popeye? I am a genuis.

The Scoop

The film is being produced by Avi Arad, who produced most of the big comic book movies of the last ten years, like X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, etc. He has yet to announce or sign a director, but he has enlisted screenwriter Mike Jones to write a draft of the film. Jones is a relative newcomer, but if Arad is involved, there should be at least some hope.

Who’s It For?

Probably G or PG.

Movie Release Date

TBA 2012.

Who’s In It?

No casting news yet.

Interesting Fact

Popeye was first introduced in a comic strip in 1929.

What’s Good About It?

I love me some spinach. Actually, I hate that VILE WEED. Popeye is a much beloved character and a lot of fun. Plus, Olive Oyl inspires anorexia in girls everywhere, which is always a good thing. Avi Arad’s involvement is another plus.

What’s Bad About It?

Too few details at present to say much about the film.

Our Clever Prediction

Don’t know. I’ve heard it’ll go 3D (of course) so it should have an inflated box office because of that, but otherwise it’ll just be interesting to see what they do with Popeye. Stay Tuned.

  1. I think that Popeye has had his time. I mean, Robin Williams already …almost killed this comic character. Can we just let the man be with his spinach and his woman. (eye roll). I couldn’t survive another popeye movie. That being said…tell me more about who is going to be in it..and I might have a change of heart. lol
