Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (2015)

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is a 2015 movie sequel to the moderately successful, and, appropriately, moderately funny film Hot Tub Time Machine. This time, instead of going back to the 80s, the gang (minus John Cusack) travel to the future. THE FUTURE!

Hot Tub Time Machine 2

The premise of the first film was a bunch of middle aged dudes, and one of their young friends, travel back in time by getting wasted and hanging out in a magical time machine. They’re able to course correct their lives a bit, and make better decisions, but now, in the present, something is going wrong, so they choose to use the time machine again. Only this time, instead of going back in time, they go forward. The time machine apparently sends them to whatever moment they are most needed in. So they go to the future because there’s a killer who wants Rob Corddry’s character Lou dead, and they have to find the assassin before he can kill Lou. I hope the killer is John Cusack in a cameo as his character from the first film. That’d be funny. Oh well.

Steve Pink is once again in the director’s chair. In addition to directing the first Hot Tub Time Machine, he directed Accepted, About Last Night, and some episodes of New Girl. Josh Heald is writing once again as well. The first film is his main claim to fame. At least things will be consistent. Still, I enjoyed the first one, and could care less if John Cusack isn’t back for the sequel. He’s probably busy trying to ‘find himself’ as he usually takes himself far too seriously in his roles lately.

Who’s In the movie?

Rob Corddry . . . Lou
Clark Duke . . . Jacob

What’s Good About It?

Boobies. Lots of boobies in HTTM 2. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 will most likely maintain the first film’s tone and quality, which, if you’re a fan, is a good thing. I enjoyed the first well enough, and may decide to enjoy this one as well, but… it was mostly just okay. It does have Adam Scott this time though, and that’s a plus. No John Cusack.

What’s Bad About It?

If you’re a John Cusack fan, there’s no John Cusack.

Our Clever Prediction

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 comes out on in 2015 now, and not Christmas… which I feel is a big gamble on the studio’s part, but also shows a fair bit of faith in the film. That’s a busy movie day, and this could get swallowed up. That said, there are a fair number of B-level comedic actors who are super talented, but less well-known. This could be a big movie for several of the stars. I hope they kill it.
