In the movie Bioshock, a plane-crash survivor discovers an underwater utopia of sinister origins. Based on the incredibly popular videogame first person shooter/adventure. There are a lot of delays and events surrounding the Bioshock Movie, one can only speculate at this point at the actual release date. Still, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who directed 28 Weeks Later and is currently trying to deliver the BioShock movie, is working behind the scenes to bring this movie forward. Sometimes, no news is good news, so we are still certain Bioshock will be released in 2013.

The Bioshock Movie

The Bioshock Movie is on hold, for now because of issues with director Gore Verbinski and the studios . Here’s Why :

“I couldn’t really get past anybody that would spend the money that it would take to do it and keep an R rating,” he explained, “Alternately, I wasn’t really interested in pursuing a PG-13 version. Because the R rating is inherent. Little Sisters and injections and the whole thing. I just wanted to really, really make it a movie where, four days later, you’re still shivering and going, “Jesus Christ!”… It’s a movie that has to be really, really scary, but you also have to create a whole underwater world, so the pricetag is high. We just didn’t have any takers on an R-rated movie with that pricetag.”

So, yeah.. the movie is on hold because the studio won’t make a Bioshock Movie 3D, give it an R rating, and spend the money on it. Can’t blame them really, look how badly Doom failed, and everyone knows about Doom. However, there has been an update…

Ken Levine from Irrational Games has recently said,

Right now the film is simply not a primary concern for the developer at the moment. Right now Irrational is working hard to wrap up the development for Bioshock Infinite, which many players are looking forward to seeing.

Levine commented on the film’s progress saying,

“It’s all about the stars aligning. We’re still focusing on it, but it hasn’t consumed us.” The last we heard about the film was back in March when we learned production was put on hold due to some disagreements between “the studio and the video game company,”

….according to the project’s director Juan Carlos. Gore Verbinski was originally set to direct the film, but both he and Fresnadillo jumped off ship for reason of contradiction.

Bioshock Movie Release Date

Bioshock is on hold for now! We are still hopeful for a 2013 release so keep your fingers crossed!

Who’s In Bioshock?

Wentworth Miller (Michael from Prison Break) is rumored to play Jack, the lead character.

The Good

A great game, wonderful plot for a film. After playing the Bioshock Game so intensely, I can’t wait for a Bioshock movie.  This adaptation  could be incredible, and with the advance of 3D technology, could be a really good fit… plus I would like to see Big Daddies on the silver screen  who wouldn’t?

The Bad

They destroy every film they take from the videogaming world. Doom was terrible, Alone in the Dark was bad… etc etc. Can they finally make a decent movie from a great game? Bioshock and Halo will be big tests for the movie makers.

  1. the best way to make a movie out of a video game is to have the directors actually play the game, what makes this game so grate is that you see what happens to a city gone astray form every moral value held true to all humans, i am not saying you MUST believe in one religion or another but to simply have faith within yourself and or soul, it is what makes us human and keeps balance in our lives, without it, you can see the destruction and overall madness and animalistic craze that comes to surface. you see this in rapture as all the citizens have gone not just crazy but have lost touch with their souls and their faith within god and or themselves as well as their family.

the greatest point within the first one is the saying we hear at all times of play from the radio “We all move the Great Chain, and the Great Chain moves us all.” i could see it as a quotation for the movie intro, it could be ryan saying that and going into a thought about what he had planned…. We all move the Great Chain, and the Great Chain moves us all….. it is why i built this city,….. ect of his intro to the games start. with him in a thought dialouge fading out as he says i’d never imagined it would end up like this… then the start of the plain seen come in and we follow a life experience of the events that unfold. i’d not only pay to see a movie like this but would be satisfied in seeing such a work being able to be pulled off.

if any video game needs to be made into a movie, this game would be it. its not just a story, but one of our very own human being and deals with all aspects of what it is to be human. this is what would make a good movie. it would connect on a personal level to everyone and allow the story to be held to its highest.

    • Both directors which made Resident Evil and Silent Hill both played and loved the games. Just saying. I liked both films, but the general movie going audience (Keeping in mind both movies were also R rated) didn’t seem to care for them.

So the point is a little flawed. I don’t know what the excuse for Doom is, but most other R-rated Video Game movies I can think of are directed by Uwe Boll. The main problem there is that he is a bad, bad, BAD director. (Alone in the Dark, Postal, FarCry, House of the Dead, In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Story, etc.)

  2. Cant wait loved one and two alot especially multiplayer add HannibalBarca13 if you wanna play. Anyway, Bioshock movie FTW! I only have the qualm that bioshock infinite will be weird.

  3. lol i loved bioshock one so much (except the ending boss weeek) if there ever is a rapture we bioshock players will make sure it comes to this >:D hehehehe
