American Hustle is a new drama from David O. Russell about a con artist and his associate who had to work with the feds to help bring down a whole network of other con artists and dirty politicians.
Should we even have to say “dirty” anymore in regards to politicians? Isn’t it assumed? But I digress.
The film is based on the true story of the ABSCAM scandal of the 1980s. Basically, the whole plot was the idea of a con artist, played by Christian Bale, who, being a con artist, had a slightly different set of morals than his fed buddy. They worked together to root out a whole network of bad folks, and if you watch the trailer below you’ll see the women had deep v-neck shirts that showed a lot of rack, so a good time was had by all.
Like I said, American Hustle comes from David O. Russell, whose last two films were Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter. He cowrote the screenplay with Eric Singer, who wrote The International, and is set to write a script for the forthcoming video game adaptation Splinter Cell.
American Hustle Trailer
American Hustle Release Date
December 13, 2013.
Who’s In It?
Christian Bale . . . Melvin Weinberg
Jeremy Renner . . . Angelo Errichetti
Amy Adams . . . Maxine Gardner
Bradley Cooper . . . Jimmy Boyle
Jennifer Lawrence . . . Rosalyn Rosenfeld.
What’s Good About It?
Silver Linings Playbook was exceptional, as was the Fighter. David O. Russell keeps having great success, and every time he does he’s able to bring in more and more talented actors to his projects. He’s brought back many of his favorites for American Hustle, and it looks like this will serve him well moving forward. I imagine this will win a few awards.
What’s Bad About It?
I’ve heard Jennifer Lawrence only has a cameo. We need her to be in every scene.
Our Clever Prediction
Come on. American Hustle comes out in December, it stars a ton of past and future award winners, and it’s based on a true story. Slam. DUNK.
