Alien ‘Prometheus’ (2012)

Alien Prometheus is the newest Alien movie (duh) , and it looks to bring this franchise to a respectable form. The series took a shit when they allowed Alien VS Predator to happen, and made a mockery out of this once powerful idea.

Alien 2012

This new ‘Alien’ movie is no longer a prequel as planned, it will be an entirely new story after Fox Studios has ditched the idea set forth by Scott. Noomi Rapace is still set to star as the main character. The film is a retelling of the years before Ridley and the crew were shitting bricks and running from the original Alien. We learn more about what the Aliens are about, why we were out in space to begin with and more.

Prometheus ties up a lot of loose ends for fans of the original Alien series.

From Ridley Scott :

While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” said Scott in a statement. “The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”

The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

White Trash Summary

In Alien Prometheus, mankind went looking for answers to our own history, and that’s when shit gets real.

Who’s In The new Alien movie?

Noomi Rapace
Michael Fassbender

The Good

That there is an ounce of faith Ridley Scott can make anything decent out of a depleted franchise. Our bet? He makes this into a 3-D movie, giving it a new twist. Update! Confirmed! Scott has confirmed the new Prometheus movie will be in 3D.

The Bad

The death of possible one of my favorite Sci-fi films as a child… however, I doubt Ridley Scott will take that many chances with the rebirth of his movie… right?

The Verdict

We still have faith in Scott, and feel getting rid of the prequel was a good idea, but what do you think?

  1. I was speaking with a guy who is working on the set of prometheus and he showed me some pictures and told me a bout the storyline. The space jockey that you see in alien who has had his chest busted open is the guy who engineers the aliens. He sends the aliens to planet that he wants to take over. The aliens kill the locals and he flys in and pillages the land of its resources. It seems as though he is responsible for the aliens creation, i’m guessing that he is some kind of super scientist.

The engineer is played by some huge guy who is 8ft tall. He appears even bigger in the space jockey scene from Alien as he is wearing a space suit. He appears to have died in a seat that looks like it is some sort of weapon control, this is in fact the navigation system that the space ship uses to open worm holes and plot its course. Perhaps the aliens revolted and, knowing that he has been impregnated, he is desperately trying to return home to have the alien extricated?

He showed me some pictures from the set. There is a huge silver bust of the engineers head, it is approximately 15m high. It appears that the engineer is sort of leader of a civilisation and there is a cult around his personality and his alien creations, this is probably due to the fact that he has mastered the technology that continues to provide the resource requirements of his home world. I also saw a picture of the actor who plays the engineer in what appeared to be some sort of cryo-chamber.

  2. I honestly think people have a tendancy to dissappoint themselves in the end when they have expectations to meet. If you’ve already built in your mind what you would have a sequel or prequel be like, then how can they ultimately please you no matter how good of a job they do? If you’re a fan of Alien, like myself, the first time you watched it, you were being told the story BY the story,,, by no pre-conceived notions, no hopes built in based on hype, or what you’ve seen before… you probably watched the first one first, and were pleased because it was something new and exciting.

There has not been one time that i’ve watched Aliens, Alien 3, yada yada… that i’ve had any complaints… nothing HAS to do exactly what Alien did for me, storywise or otherwise… they’re good films to watch, they DO care about what happens with the characters, Fincher, Cameron, Anderson, ect, they all cared… if their take didn’t do it for you, that’s okay. No ones forcing you to be as in love with them. But why complain? Put them down? insult them? talk about the franchise being killed, or ruined, or butchered because they haven’t done what you would have done with the time and money, or creativity and effort you would have put into making the sequels specially designed for your own specific pre-conceited pallet?

Anyways, yes, my favourite will always be Alien, because of the way it was done and because of what went into it, the making of is fantastic as well considering.. And i’m definately happy to know Giger and Scott are taking it on… I have no expectations other than i’m probably going to have a good time in the theatre when the time comes : ).

Go team! (sorry for the rant)

  3. It would be interesting to see a whole new take on the alien franchise. Was a prequel a bad idea though? There are still so many questions left unanswered and yet if they were answered would we still as an audience appreciate Scotts genius of making great Si-fi? For me the most important question is from the first film – where did the alien ship come from? Who sent out the warning signals? Why, if not aliens, were they there? Where did the aliens come from?
I think the new film should either help to suggest at some still unanswered questions or just take a whole different angle on the xenomorphs as a whole. Only then will there still be a sense of originality as well as steering away from the other franchise movies following the first. Anyway, enough babbling. Lookin foward to new film x

  4. Michael Fassbender, Actor, stated the film was still an Alien prequel, saying, “Prometheus is absolutely connected to Alien… There’s a definite connecting vein.”
