The third Hobbit film is renamed, Godzilla roars in IMAX and internationally, Edge of Tomorrow complements Emily Blunt’s poster with a Tom Cruise one, Transformers: Age of Extinction brings on a new international trailer, as does X-Men: Days of Future Past, & Sex Tape goes green band/lame.
The Hobbit: There and Back Again OR The Battle of the Five Armies?
The Hobbit: There and Back Again has a new titles that, according to director Peter Jackson, better represents the new film now that they’ve reshuffled things a bit by making the films three instead of two films. The new title is The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I liked the original one more, but I get what Jackson means. Essentially, the way the films were originally going to be split, Frodo would have gotten to the mountain, confronted Smaug, had all the other stuff go on, and then gone home to the Shire in a single film, thus There and Back Again. But, for those that have seen the second film, you know he’s already gotten to the mountain and said, “What’s up, Smaug? Ya Bitch!” so it’s more like the third film will be The Hobbit: Back Again. But that sounds like a Backstreet Boys song, so instead they’re focusing on the big fight in the flick. It works, though it sounds more badass than Hobbity. Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and Return of the King have grandeur. The Battle of the Five Armies, while cool sounding, doesn’t have the same weight in my humble, never wrong opinion. Oh well.
Godzilla has a new poster today for IMAX that once again is super stylish and totally awesome, but there’s also a couple new international trailers that don’t suck. I’m confused by the beaten up Statue of Liberty. I thought they were gonna have Godzilla on the West Coast, since he messes with Japan… Does he walk through the US, or go the long way around in the ocean?
Whatevs. There’s an absolutely badass shot of Godzilla in the first trailer, which is repeated in the second video, which is really just a shortened version of the first. Not bad though, and there’s definitely some good footage so it’s a good thing. JUST LIKE MARTHA STEWART ALWAYS SAYS!
Edge of Tomorrow
Edge of Tomorrow has a new poster of Tom Cruise today, and it’s kinda cool. I did not realize the film was set in England. That actually adds an interesting element to the film. Not enough science fiction is set there.
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Transformers: Age of Extinction has a new trailer that starts with a preview by Mark Wahlberg, where he claims the film has special effects we’ve never seen before. This is the fourth film in the franchise, I’m guessing we’ve seen this type of special effects before. Just a guess, but YEAH.
X-Men: Days of Future Past
X-Men: Days of Future Past has a new trailer for Japan that’s pretty cool, with bits of new footage, but more importantly it uses Kashmir by Led Zeppelin as the music, and the Japanese voiceover adds gravitas. I think there’s a general fear that this take on the X-Men might be getting a bit stale, and I’ve worried that for a while too, but at the same time I think there’s more to mine from the series, and hope they get a few more films before they truly reset. Though I hope they do reset, and don’t halfway reset like with First Class. All new actors and start from scratch. It could be cool!
Sex Tape has a new green band trailer that doesn’t do a great job of making me think it’ll be funny. The gags are horrendous, and they dance around some of the cursing so it just feels tame. The red band trailer didn’t look funny either, but whatevs. It’ll be a turd, and probably make a few bucks in the process of lowering our collective IQs.
