Maleficent gives a much better look at the story, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has a hero and villain face off, Pompeii is both fun AND educational, 300: Rise of an Empire looks absolutely awesome in a new TV spot and trailer, and The Lego Movie & I, Frankenstein have 2 TV spots a piece!
Maleficent has a new featurette that essentially explains the film’s plot, but this time it gives us a lot better look at both Angelina Jolie’s performance and the visuals of the film and how it’ll come across. This really will be a live action version of Sleeping Beauty, only they’re showing that the villain, Maleficent, was always trying to help Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), but by preparing her for the struggles she’d face in life. Maleficent wants Beauty to be strong enough to be a queen. At least that’s the impression I get. She’s sort of like Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. She was wronged once, and doesn’t want another lady to be hurt the same way. Cool stuff.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has a new poster of Spidey and Electro standing face to face with a bunch of lightning all around them. It’s not the best poster, but it does make me happy to see how much better the costume looks in the second film as compared to the first. They really screwed the pooch with The Amazing Spider-Man. The eyes were all wrong. This is a lot more heroic, and in some ways more innocent. That works much better for Spider-Man. I’m happy.
I love that Pompeii is trying to be educational. Come on. Just show the volcano blow up. 58 baseball stadiums. Um… okay? I farted once and it was at least 4 baseball stadiums worth of damage, at least to my reputation. Damn ACTs. Why did I have to eat a burrito and then sit right next to my crush for a multiple hour exam with no bathroom breaks?
My ass fact: 4 kids didn’t get into college cause they passed out during the test. No one died, so it’s not quite the same as a volcano, but lives were ruined, dammit!
300: Rise of an Empire
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been looking forward to 300: Rise of an Empire, but the trailers and TV spots thus far haven’t really filled me with excitement. I’ve assumed it’ll be a fun ride and enjoyable enough, but the promotional materials have been lackluster. Not enough action and badassness.
That is over. The new TV spot featuring some Black Sabbath and plenty of intensity has me thoroughly excited AND there’s a new trailer that showcases a lot more action and looks incredible. They should just do this in various forms until the film comes out in March. For reals, yo’.
The Lego Movie
The Lego Movie has two new TV spots today, both of which are fun, and do their job of making me look forward to the film. The first focuses on Emmett and his inherit goodness, and the second has a lot of Wildstyle, his lady love. The second one is a lot of fun actually, and shows some creativity with the Lego figures. Cool.
I, Frankenstein has two new TV spots today also, and I really feel bad for the film, because I feel like it has potential, but will ultimately be a really, really REALLY horrible film and tank at the box office. I’m betting it doesn’t come in the top 3 spots. It just looks like a flop. And it could be good.
