Raze (2014) – Women Fighting in Prison. Yep.

Raze is a women in prison film (OH YEAH) about women force into bare knuckle fighting in some sort of Saw ripoff.

So in the film, a group of about 50 women are imprisoned in some sort of underground prison, similar to what you find on every street in the Western portions of Canada, and they’re brought into a small circular cell, likely equipped with lots of cameras, and they have to brutally fight one another. It’s a pretty gritty, gruesome film by all accounts, and the trailer looks awesome.

The story focuses on two women in particular, Sabrina and Jamie, who are forced to fight because their loved ones are also imprisoned, and if they don’t fight with all their might their loved ones will die. Basically, it’s how Canada elects their mayors. That’s why crack helps them get elected.

I’m not 100% sure, but I assume the film will mostly deal with the women finding the strength to not only combat one another, but also their captors and fight their way to freedom.

Raze

Raze is a Grindhouse style flick from John C. Waller, who also came up with the story. Waller last made a film called McCanick, which I understand is also sort of a Grindhouse film. The trailer looks good at least.

What’s Good About It?

I really like the trailer for Raze, and Zoe Bell is a badass action star chick. She was awesome in Death Proof, and she really looks like she can kick some butt. And she’s not a half bad actress. I really like what she’s doing here, and Rachel Nichols looks hotter than hell, so she’ll work too.

What’s Bad About It?

It’s straight up B movie stuff, and if you don’t want to see a movie about women in prison (meaning if you’re a LOSER) then you might not like this one.

Our Clever Prediction

I can’t imagine Raze is going to be a box office hit, especially as it’s On Demand the same day it comes out in theaters, but it actually looks pretty good and like it might be a lot of fun. I hope it does well. I really do.
