Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Movie (2011)

Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Movie is the kid friendly film written and starring everyone’s favorite theater masturbator, Paul Reubens. One of two screenplays Reubens has written for his iconic character, Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Movie is the kid version, versus the adult-themed script he has also been shopping around.

Reubens has recently done a series of sold out shows as his greatest creation, and the performances have done a great deal to enhance his credibility, as well as the likelihood that the film will be made. At present, Reubens is the only person on the cast, and no director is attached to the film.

Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Movie Script

The script was written by Pee-Wee himself, although it has yet to be picked up. Reubens has stated that the script is ready to go, so it may go into production soon, provided the budget is right. The story has something to do with the King of Cartoons being kidnapped, which is comedy gold. I think Bill Murray has done 5 films about that, and the subject is still fresh. So… Yeah.

Who’s It For?

This is the kid’s version, but there should be enough humor for the adults in the crowd. Pee-wee Herman is an iconic character, and I’d go see it, if for no other reason than the trippiness of the production.

What’s Good About It?

It’s Pee-wee Herman! I wish I did drugs, so this could be my most anticipated film. At present, it only ranks in the top ten or so.

What’s Bad About It?

Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Movie is the kid’s version. I’d much rather see the adult film. Pee-wee may not play to kid’s today, and I feel that Reubens plays so much better to the adults who understand what he’s doing.

Our Clever Prediction

Regardless of whether the film is kid safe or not, I’ll like it. The series had such talent as Laurence Fishburne and Rob Zombie, who are obviously known for their kid friendly approaches to film, and the film should just rock. I hope there are some subtle references to going to a porn theater.
