Nothing gets my juices flowing like a good zombie movie, and I haven’t seen a decent one in years, until now. Sure Zombieland has a lot of flaws and head-scratching moments, but here’s why we can recommend it regardless. And no, that isn’t Michael Cera, it’s Jesse Eisenberg an exact clone in every aspect.
The Truth
Zombieland is everything a good zombie movie should be. Tons of fighting, lots of laughs and a film that never takes itself too seriously. When our two male survivors (Harrelson and Eisenberg) meet up with two sisters, things start out rough.
After being conned out of their vehicle and weapons, Tallahassee and Columbus soon meet up with the girls again, and they decide to work together to get the young girl to a theme park.
Here’s where the movie slows down, and we go from fun, often intense moments, to dulls-ville. We have to endure a long drawn out part of the film where not a hell of a lot happens, then they throw in a zombie moment to humor us.
Zombieland picks up the action as the kids take up residence in Bill Murray’s house, up in 90210. His cameo is brief, yet funny, too bad it was that short because the film needed some new characters by this point.
The girls head off to the theme park, for some reason alone and at night. Another hole in the plot … you just get used to it. Why would you venture to a zombie ridden city at night, with only your 12yr old sister as backup?
Tallahassee and Columbus decide to follow later on, good thing they did because the girls are being swarmed by zombies and are in need of help. Well fucking duh!
Boom! Zombies are cleared out by our male heroes, Columbus gets Wichita, and Woody Harrelson’s character gets the 12yr old girl I suppose? Oh, ok..
The Action
Zombieland is all action, hilarious action, but it really dies down in the middle of the film to a crawl.
The Effects
Beautiful head splattering, gut exploding action with wonderful and new creative ideas to destroy the undead.
What’s good about Zombieland?
The comedy surrounding the entire way the four lead characters interact.
What’s bad about Zombieland?
Zombieland started out so strong and promising, but it really slows down fast and hard, and is a snoozer for a good 35 mins in the middle. Also, the glaring holes in the plot are unforgivable at times.
Here are my top questions for Zombieland :
You’ll Like Zombieland If
If you are looking for a fun zombie movie that has a few decent head-shots and laughs, you’ll be happy.
The Verdict
Zombieland is a decent zombie film that starts out strong, then waddles along the rest of the way. The film is fun, funny for the most part, but won’t satisfy the diehard zombie movie fanatics. Rent if for a fun night, try not to judge it as hard as I may have.
