A drama based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College Texas. In 1935, he inspired students to form the school’s first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship.
The Truth :
Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker shine in this true story. The Drama is an incredible story of dedication and persistence. The movie takes you on a wonderful adventure with a group of students who break many grounds in a time where African Americans are belittled.
Considering the levels of racism in the 30′s and the general concensus that blacks shouldn’t be in schoool, The Great Debators tells a very powerful story that moves you to this day.
The Verdict :
Not sure why this movie didn’t do that well in the theatres, but its an excellent picture. Rent it, you’ll enjoy it very much.
