Two immature adults compete for respect and dominance as they become step-brothers after their parents are married to each other.
The Truth
You can polish a turd, but its still a turd. The movie is so similar to Night At The Roxberry, its sickening. The film lacks originality and laughs and offers nothing you haven’t seen before from the king of unoriginal movies, Will Ferrell.
Two grown men in their 40’s, acting like teenagers, nothing too original here. Heck, it wasn’t long ago I watched Night At The Roxberry, so the entire plot seemed so familiar when I watched Step Brothers, I thought I was watching a rerun on TBS.
There’s just too many things I am beginning to despise about Ferrell lately, his movies have gone the way of Adam Sandler, and are on constant repetition of previous successful formulas.
Then there’s John C. Reilly, who I still want to punch after having to endure Walk Hard. Reilly plays Dale Doback, an outrageous character who is the spitting image of Ferrell’s character Brennan Huff. An unlikeable character, with little charm and zero laughs that makes you applaud once this shit movie finally ends.
Throw in a couple fart gags, gay jokes , testicle punches and apparently this is the formula for a Will Ferrell movie these days.
The Laughs
I think I was suppsed to laugh every time Ferrell yelled at Reilly, but I’m not sure. I can’t remember anything really laughable, although Will Ferrell singing Por Ti Volare (originally sung by Andrea Bocelli as “Con Te Partiro”) was memorable and gave me a chuckle.
What’s good about it?
You can fall asleep for a half hour, wake up .. and not miss anything important.
What’s bad about it?
No boobies. Nakedness is important in a good comedy.
You’ll Like It If
You absolutely love Will Ferrell.
Reminds me of
Night At The Roxberry, Elf, Taladaga Nights.. EVERY WILL FERRELL MOVIE EVER MADE!
The Verdict
Step Brothers was full of laughs you’ve seen over and over and over again and lacks anything original.
