Star Trek (2009) Review

Star Trek 2009 had a lot of people worried, and the old school fans will most certainly enjoy this production of the franchise. However, new fans to the franchise.. you’ll be pleasantly surprised, if not blown away by this movie.

Star Trek (2009) The Truth

Star Trek 2009 was, perhaps, the best Sci-Fi I have seen in 20 years. The writing, acting and effects blew me away, and I loved the characters and interaction between them all.

If you are new to the series, this film gives the new movie audience a really good background of all the main characters that are famous after all these years. We learn about Kirk’s father, his death and the meeting of Spock and Kirk, which for a lot of us, was never that clear to begin with.

The film is riddled with action, wicked special effects and brings a whole new life to the franchise, that will undoubtedly chime in with many new sequals.

I thought I would dislike Simon Pegg as Scotty, but he nailed the role, while Bana was really good as Romulan badboy Nero. Quinto (from NBC’s “Heroes”) brings Spock back to life, it was no disrespect to the original character.

Star Trek (2009) The Action

Star Trek has lots of action, but I felt most of it was being held for the next movie, in order to introduce (or reintroduce ) the characters to us again. Plenty of great moments in the end for the USS Enterprise, lots of fist fights and weapon battles.

The Laughs

A few laughs hidden in the dialogue for Trekkies and nerds alike. Kirk and Spock have quite a few funny moments between them.

What’s good about it?

The history, the acting.. and the fact they never destroyed beloved characters a generation or two has fallen in love with. I appreciated the fact they didn’t overdue the reinvention of a young Spock, Kirk or others.

I really loved the writing and acting in this movie. The entire film was wonderful from start to finish.

What’s bad about it?

Although I loved the fact they needed to reinvent the characters, I found it a little too over-the-top in some of the exploits. Kirk and Spock are, at times, put in situations and circumstances a little out of character from the original series.

I guess you have to reinvent the characters these days to please a lot of the simple movie-goers who need punching and explosions to get them through a film.

You’ll Like It If

If you love Sci-Fi like I do, you’ll enjoy Star Trek 2009 very much, its a winner, from start to finish.

Quote of the film

Space… the final frontier.

The Verdict

Star Trek 2009 was everything Star Wars should have been. George Lucas should watch this movie, and take notes on how to pay tribute to a famous film, and how we don’t need horrible characters thrown down our throats.

Star Trek (2009)is a success on every level, and a fun ride for fans of the old series and will bring many new ones aboard the fan base. Check it out, Star Trek rocks. I was lated watching this film, I regret that it took me this long to see such a masterful piece of film. Star Trek (2009) is incredible, watch it immediately and enjoy it on the home theater!
