I’m just pumping out reviews now because :
a. I like to
b. Its my blog, I’ll do as I like
c. I like to know if my tastes are that different than the average reader on this site.
So enter Spider-Man 3, a DVD I was quite excited to see. My only hope was the movie wasn’t a love story, like Rise Of The Silver Surfer. But, of course, it was.. and there lies the reason why I never liked this movie. If Dr.Phil were a super hero, his name would be Spider-Man.
Its not like I don’t enjoy a love story, if thats the movie I expect. I’m as sensitive as the next guy when it comes to a good romance movie with the wife. However, I anticipate action and adventure when I watch a movie about superheros. The fact they have super powers isn’t enough to base a movie on? Why do I have to always be drawn into a love story? Its Spider-Man , why do I care about his struggles with women, when the man can shoot a web from his wrist, and stick to walls? Why would anything, but his abilities, matter to me?
Is it just me, or was The Sandman a pathetic villain? Not the Sandman I remember from the comic book days, who never showed an ounce of remorse for his actions or Spider-Man. The 2007 crop of villains all have a soft side, a caring side… they all have these unusual characteristics you would have never seen in the comics.
When Harry Osborn dropped his hatred for Peter Parker and decided to help save Mary Jane along side Spider-Man … I almost vomited. When Sandman and Spider-Man have a heart-to-heart, I actually started to laugh out loud.
The absolute worst part of the movie, was watching this 45 minute inner plot, when Venom takes over Spider-Man’s character. I actually cringed when watching this entire sequence when Parker is dancing in a Jazz Lounge and playing the piano. This could be the most ridiculous movie event in the last 20 years. Considering the entire movie was a love story with fifteen minutes of action thrown in, perhaps I shouldn’t be shocked Sam Rami decided to pay homage to “Singing in the Rain”.
I’m certain the kids 15 and under loved this movie, but what a disappointment for a real fan of the comic book series. I hope they lay this franchise to rest, I have no interest in seeing Tobey Maguire disco down the road in a future sequel. Wait a minute, did they really have Peter Parker doing a disco walk down the road, trying to inspire laughter within the audience? Yes, they did, yet another reason why Spider-Man 3 stunk and I hope they never make another one.
Stick a fork in this series, and the Fantastic Four. Both have jumped the shark, both have turned into love stories.

I was very disappointed in this movie, because it tried to bundle to much of Spiderman’s history into one movie. I liked the other two movies because they were put together a lot better than this one.
