Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010) Review

Well I have to admit, this new series by STARZ took me a bit by surprise when I first watched it. Now having watched the first couple episodes, I think it’s safe to say this mini-series is one of the better programs I have watched since ‘Rome’.

This 13 part series resembles the movie 300 in it’s style. It is filmed almost entirely the same way, with mostly computer generated backgrounds and effects. It worked with 300, and it works with Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

The series is a sexy, no-holds-barred look at the rise of ‘Spartacus’. The story starts from the humble beginnings of Spartacus as a man who is dragged into battle with the Romans, along with his countrymen. After being double crossed, he is captured and sent to Rome to attend Gladiator school, against his will. Shortly after learning his true love, and wife, is enslaved by the evil Roman empire, he must fulfill his Gladiator duties to get her back, and win his freedom in doing so.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is strictly for adults. The gore and sexual content is extreme, which is why this series is so awesome. A massive amount of beautiful naked women in every possible scene, blood, gore and battle. How can we not love it so far?

Breaking News For Spartacus

Starz is developing a six-episode miniseries prequel for Spartacus: Blood and Sand, in order to keep the series’ momentum after its star, Andy Whitfield, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma a month ago and production on a second season was indefinitely postponed.

The series is averaging a million viewers each week; the network green-lighted season 2 a month before it even premiered, but now, with Whitfield in treatment, Starz finds itself with nothing to do, while expenses pile up

A prequel would keep the sets and creative staff productive, while holding on to the original show’s fans. Good luck Andy, we are pulling for a full recovery!

Why You Care

Lucy Lawless and all the girls get naked whenever possible. Matter of fact, Lawless now shows her gorgeous hooters in every episode.

The Women of Spartacus

Perhaps the most powerful aspect of the film is the incredible, yet sexy, leading female cast in Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Lucy Lawless, Viva Bianca, Lesley-Ann Brandt , Jai Courtney, Erin Cummings.. all spectacular women who have no issues showing off their gorgeous bodies and excellent acting skills.

The Men of Spartacus

The leading male actors are all rugged and muscular, fitting for the period. Manu Bennett plays ‘Crixus’ , Peter Mensah, Nick Tarabay, Andy Whitfileld all round out the excellent cast. Whitfiled may have launched himself into stardom with his role of Spartacus, he is spectacular. Peter Mensah was in 300, and fits in perfectly as Gladiator instructor ‘Doctore’

The Action

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is non-stop action.

The Effects

The effects in this film are identical to 300,which I really enjoyed. Spartacus: Blood and Sand delivers excellent battle effects like blood splatter, head chopping and more.

Why should I watch Spartacus: Blood and Sand ?

For the girls, the nudity, the sex, the battles and the story.

You’ll Like It If

If you liked 300, Troy and Rome you will love Spartacus: Blood and Sand .

The Verdict

I am hooked on Spartacus: Blood and Sand and cannot wait for the rest of the season to unfold. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoyed 300, Rome or Troy.

Note : I am no longer blogging about all the episodes of Spartacus. I have promoted the shit out of this series, and the network refuses to support us, or our readers with any promotions for the series. Although I still enjoy it, I’m not willing to give STARZ free advertizing any further, they don’t appear to give a shit about us fans of the show.

So, I look forward to the rest of the series, but I’m not wasting any more time pumping out their show, with them offering nothing in return for our readers.

Spartacus is awesomely cool with graphic violence. Erin Cummings starred as Sura, spartacus wife. She is so beautiful and hot.
