Juno : Review

Teenage pregnancy and issues are tackled in this light hearted film.

Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual decision regarding her unborn child. With the help of her best friend, Juno finds her unborn child a “perfect” set of parents.

The Truth :

Juno has been the talk of the town for some time. It comes with a lot of expectations and acclaim. Juno is the story of teenage pregnancy, with little real life circumstances or consequences. The movie is a little too cute for me, the reality of teenage pregnacy is overshadowed with laughter and cute little scenarios.

I just didn’t buy into many of the characters in the film, the movie didn’t do much for me on an entertainment level. Cited as a Drama, Comedy and Romance the movie loses direction rather quickly.

Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman play the role of the soon to be adoptive parents of Juno’s baby. We later learn of emotional struggles of their own and the plot reveals a twist in the end.

Unimportant Fact

I had a pair of sweet shorts just like Michael Cera’s character wore in the movie when I was in grade 9.

The Verdict :

Juno is an average movie about a serious topic. I’m not sure what the message was supposed to be. Teenage girls would watch this movie and think “Hey.. its not all that bad being pregnant at 15, maybe I worried too much”. Maybe we worry too much about the message of movies and the thoughts it will leave in the minds or our youth.

As a story in itself, Juno is watchable. I found it neither very funny or smart.. just a story that you can take either way. Its a rental, you won’t be blown away so don’t expect too much. Juno’s success is based more on hype and the controversial topic of teen pregnancy, abortion and adoption. If you are looking for an incredible story and lots of laughs from Michael Cera.. you’ll be disappointed.
