When wealthy weapons manufacturer Tony Stark is forced to build an armored suit after a life-threatening incident, he ultimately decides to use its technology to fight against evil.
The Truth
Iron Man was all hype and little substance. I wasn’t impressed with the lack of action, or the horrible love story interwoven into the plot. Robert Downey Jr was credible as a lead Superhero, but it wasn’t a role any “B” list celebrity couldn’t have pulled off either.
With so much time spent on the events leading up to the creation of the Iron Man character, I was uninterested when the action finally occurred. Again, we have another example of an traditional story that Hollywood has to destroy by turning it into a love story with far too much needless adult situations, in a movie that should be for the kids.
Filmmaker Jon Favreau should be frowned upon for boring us with such a love story, when he’s a much better filmmaker than this.
The Action
Action? What action? You’d think a movie about a classic superhero would have a decent amount of action, but it doesn’t. Iron Man was all about the supposed message we were suppose to take home from the film and nothing about entertainment. The final battle between Stark and Obadiah Stane was disappointing to say the least.
Oh, while I’m at it.. why would either Tony Stark, or Obadiah, be able to move their “Iron Men” so gracefully and like masters of the martial arts, when neither ever has had training. The robots only move as well as the people inside of them, so how did Iron man and the old man battle like super ninjas?
So many flaws in the film, so little time. Take into consideration the lack of enemies Iron Man had and I’m not sure where exactly this film is going to go and why there are two sequels lined up already.
The Verdict
Iron Man was disappointing from start to finish. The filling of boring scenes with an ACDC soundtrack did nothing to prevent me from giving this movie a failing grade. It was a boring, uneventful production that was only really there to warm us up for Iron Man 2, in 2010 and Iron Man 3 in 2012.
Tony Stark’s one-liners were sickening and dull, as was the love tension between Stark and Pepper Potts. A predictable film, with little substance or action wrapped around a weak storyline and dialogue.
I hated Spider-Man 3 with a passion, Iron Man ranks up there beside it in the hall of shame. At least in Iron Man 2, we won’t have to watch Terrence Howard (one of the most overrated actors on the planet) as he has been dismissed from the sequel.

This movie stunk.
