Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure.
The Truth :
I Am Legend is a decent movie, wrapped around miles of special effects. You’ve probably seen the movie by now, I know I’m not spoiling much of the plot in this review.
It is the year 2012. In the ruins of New York city. Robert Neville who is a military scientist and the lone survivor of a biochemical disease which was supposed to cure cancer. With only blood thirsty zombies as his neighbors and his trusty dog, Samantha, Robert is trying to discover a cure for this disease and to find out any other people who might have also survived.
I’m still confused as to why Neville never captured an armored vehicle from police headquarters to cruise around with, or for protection. I mean, he could have really done some damage to the zombie like inhabitants of the city if he wanted to.
Instead we find our hero buckled down in a fortified apartment, with a rooftop make of wood. I suspect there would be dozens of better places one could survive in at night.
As Neville searches for a cure by day, while hunting for food, we learn about the events leading up to present day. We follow Neville around abandoned NY, until one day he meets another person immune to the disease. You’d think Neville would embrace his new friends, since his only companion the last three years has been a dog who has recently died.
At this point I grow a bit irritated with the movie. Neville has an attitude towards the lady and her son, we’ve seen this a thousand times before. I suspect I’d be doing cartwheels if I found people to talk to after three years. I’d be doing the moonwalk if she turned out to be a gorgeous like Alice Braga.
Regardless, Neville dies and the mother and her son make it to a safe zone.
The Verdict :
All special effects and little attention to a wonderful story. I suppose the movie left a lot of questions unanswered because of the rumored sequel I Am Legend 2 in 2010.
I Am Legend was disappointing, far too little action and I never cared for the main characters. When you are rooting for the death of the main characters, I think the movie has flopped.

It’s 2009 and a deadly virus is about to wipe out humanity
Will Smith goes high-octane in this futuristic action drama. It’s the year 2009 and Manhattan is being evacuated along with every other city in the world for fear of the deadliest outbreak of the KV virus. As the virus mutates and crosses over into an airborne pathogen, widespread chaos breaks out across America.
Will Smith is Robert Neville, a research doctor and the only one with immunity to this vicious disease. Come sunset and the only creatures roaming the planet are ghoulish fiends infected with this deadly plague. Neville battles life and limb for 3 years to find survivors in and amongst the ruins of New York City.
With only his loyal German shepherd and his daily radio broadcasts it’s a nightmare come true. Only monstrous abominations roam the streets after dark and it’s eerie as all hell. That is until a mystery guest arrives.
This is riveting entertainment; it has moments of real drama as it gradually builds up to a pyrotechnical masterpiece. Enjoy it at your own peril!

I just watched I Am Legend again last night, and it still stinks. Two years later, I haven’t changed my mind about this movie.
