The world’s bravest mouse embarks on a noble quest that leads to discovery, courage, honor and ultimately redemption. In the far away kingdom of Dor… lived a brave and virtuous mouse with comically oversized ears who dreamt of becoming a Knight.
Banished from his home for having such lofty ambitions, Despereaux sets off on an amazing adventure with his good-hearted rat friend, Roscuro, who leads him, at long last, on a very noble quest to rescue an endangered princess and save an entire kingdom from darkness.
The Tale of Despereaux is a really detailed animation, with a storyline more suited for those 6 and up. While it was a really enjoyable film, it does start off with the death of the Queen, which was sort of a somber way to begin a kids movie.
That being said, I was taken back by the wonderful animation and detail the movie offered, and found the plot thick enough for me to enjoy with the kids, which is always nice when sitting through a children’s movie.
The Laughs
Despereaux gets himself into a few funny situations along the way, and his gang of followers also were decently amusing.
What’s good about it?
The animation, the message, the Voices of : Matthew Broderick, Emma Watson, Christopher Lloyd , Dustin Hoffman , Sigourney Weaver
What’s bad about it?
A little dark and somber at times for 5 and unders.
The Verdict
The Tale of Despereaux is a good movie, best watched with kids 6 and up, because of some suggestive circumstances.
