Cloverfield Review : First person sci-fi around a monster attack in New York, as told from the point of view of a small group of people.

The Truth :

A promising movie that quickly turns into something you’d flush down your toilet, in only 10 minutes. Cloverfield looks promising, but is a lame attempt at a quality monster movie. You’d think you would care about the main characters, but you don’t. The weak acting is almost as sickening as the shaky camera footage we are forced to endure for 1.5 hours.

What could have been :

This could have been an incredible, fun film. It was ruined by its clear ripoff of The Blair Witch Project. Then again, what else could I expect from J.J Abrams? The man force fed us Mission Impossible 3 and Armageddon, Gone Fishing and gigantic superflop Forever Young.

Cloverfield had some nice special effects, then again… so did Battlefield Earth. That isn’t enough to make a movie worth seeing, is it? We find out absolutely nothing in the end, not that I really cared, but it would be nice to learn a little soemthing about the gigantic Gumby destroying NYC.

In the end, its the Blair Witch Project all over again. Cue camera on the ground filming away as the lead character dies…. yack.. is this the ending? Really? I just didn’t care.

The Verdict :

You’ll rent it because you’ve heard so much hype surrounding Cloverfield, but you’ll be disappointed. Go rent “The Host” instead, it received much less press/hype and was 10x the movie.

Cloverfield was the perfect example of the Hollywood hype machine in full swing. All hype, no delivery.. and nobody is admitting it. I am shocked at the amount of good reviews this movie has received, I am losing faith in the demand for quality in movie-goers these days.

Cloverfield was not a good movie, be honest with yourself and admit it. Cloverfield sucked balls.
