The Truth :
Before The Devil Knows Your Dead opens with Morisa Tomei naked, in all her glory, taking it from Philip Seymour Hoffman. Yeah, it got my interest immediately.. you could say I was pleasantly surprised at the pace of this sexy thriller.
This movie is so clever, so sneaky.. that you have no idea whats going to happen next. Its a throwback to the old days when a film is actually written perfectly… for the audience.. that you have to watch till the end because you get so wrapped up in the characters and the trainwreck of a life they are building.
Wait a minute, Marisa Tomei is naked again and she’s having sex with the other brother, Henry Hanson now?
– My wife , as she also gets hooked on the movie.
The film takes us to the events leading up to the murder of the Hanson brother’s mother, and what happens after. How could such a perfect plan go wrong? Nobody was supposed to get hurt, it was too easy.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns and the performances by Hawke, Hoffman and the sexy Marisa Tomei. Not sure why the had her naked in half the movie, but it worked. Good for Marisa, she’s a sex symbol and should be proud of her acting abilities and sexuality. She is Gorgeous!
Albert Finney was genious in his role of the father to Henry and Andrew Hanson. Albert uncovers the truth about the murders and delivers an Oscar worthy performance.
This is the best work I’ve ever seen for Ethan Hawke, Albert Finney and Marisa Tomei. Seymour Hoffman has only had an equally performance in Capote.
The Verdict
One of the best movies you’ll see in 2008, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead is giving There Will Be Blood a run for Best DVD of 2008 in my mind. I can’t recommend this film enough, it was amazing from start to finish. Its not often you can find a true Thriller with enough sexyness to make it a real winner.
Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead is incredible, amazing and a movie that left me wanting more. Watch this movie or you’ll be missing out on a true masterpiece!
