Awake : Review
Tags: Hayden Christensen, Jessica Alba
A young man with a bad heart is caught between his health, his mother and the love of his life, in this twisted thriller.
The story focuses on Clay Beresford {Hayden Christensen} who suffers “anesthetic awareness” and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during heart surgery. His young wife {Jessica Alba} must wrestle with her own demons as a drama unfolds around them.
The Truth : Clay Beresford is a young billionaire who inherited his father’s fortune, and business. Unfortunately, Clay Beresford has a failing heart and will die if he doesn’t recieve a transplant in the near future.
Clay believes time is running out on his life, and marries the woman he loves {Jessica Alba} against his mother’s wishes. When a new heart becomes available, Clay allows a new friend {Terrence Howard },and surgeon, to perform the operation rather than use the best surgeons money, and influence can buy.
Clay has an out of body experience while under anesthetic and discovers the truth about his life, his family and friends.
The plot is full of holes and hiccups and the movie moves along at a rather slow pace. Hayden Christensen is.. well.. unspectacular as usual and Jessica Alba is … watchable.
The Action : Little to none. The movie had a budget of 9 Million dollars, so the action was… non existent.
Favorite Scenes : Eh, I may knock Jessica Alba’s ability to act, but she’s topless in a couple scenes so I forgive her. Mind you, they really don’t show any nudity, its just a teaser.
The Verdict : Awake is a short movie that has a few twist and turns along the way to make me recommend it. However, don’t expect the movie to resemble “Flatliners”, you’ll be disappointed.
Awake is an average movie at best.
