I can’t tell you how excited I was to review the movie Anvil. Being a metalhead from the 80’s, Anvil were one of my favorite bands, for a few years, right until Metallica and Slayer started making their move onto the metal scene.
The Truth
Anvil is a documentary about one of the most charished, loved and forgotten metal bands of the 80’s. The film takes you on a heartwarming journey into the current lives of the band members, and also into their incredible history.
You’ll learn about just how powerful their music was, how popular they were and even the incredible talent they influenced such as Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. The film has lots of cameos, including Lars from Metallica and many other metal favorites from this genre.
The most interesting part of the story, for me, was the relationship between founding members Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow and Drummer Robb Reiner. I enjoyed watching their historic relationship unfold.
The Laughs
The Story of Anvil has a ton of laughs, the band never takes itself too seriously, nor does the footage they include from the concerts.
What’s good about it?
The film gives you an inside look on what its like to be on on top, then completely forgotten. Its an honest look at what the love your music is really about.
What’s bad about it?
Nothin, I loved this movie from start to finish.
Reminds me of
Some Kind Of Monster. I was a fan of Metallica’s documentary, but this blows it out of the water.
The Verdict
Anvil! The Story of Anvil! was one of the best films I have seen in 2009. Even if you have no idea who they were, or you hate Heavy Metal, I think you’ll appreciate this film.
Anvil is a terrific movie, I loved it.
