Six months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again. But not everything goes to plan.
The Truth :
I know this is a late review, the movie has been out for some time, but maybe there’s a few of you who haven’t seen this zombie slaughterfest.
28 Weeks later is almost everything a zombie movie could be. I say “almost” because it lacked a few elements and included a few too many for my liking. I enjoyed the special effects and action, but disliked the zombie “Don” who for some reason made it to the end to try and kill his family.
“Don” the zombie was an asshole, left his wife to die by the hands of the undead while he ran like a little bitch to his escape boat. The real hole in the story begins here. His sexy wife {Catherine McCormack} is immune to the zombie infection and doesn’t die as he thinks. However, how is this possible? Its not like the zombies bite people and run away. They tear you limb to limb, shred you in half. Very few actually make it to the zombie stage in one piece. If she was trapped in a house full of zombies, and she never turned into one, wouldn’t they just rip her apart? I was, and still am confused.
Anyways, the rest of the movie consists of trying to get the children of Catherine McCormack’s character Alice, to safety since they also carry the cure. Things aren’t that easy since Don the zombie {the father of the 2 children} seems to always bump into them.
Its a fairly entertaining movie, some fantastic effects and visuals.
Favorite Scenes : The best scene of the movie was when helicopter pilot Flynn {Harold Perrineau} uses the rotors to slice and dice his way through dozens of running zombies in a farmer’s field. I loved it!
The Verdict : As far as zombie movies go, 28 Weeks later is a top 10 contender worthy of a recommendation. I’ll never understand why the US miliatry never brought any tanks into the containment zone, but I suppose I shouldn’t be too picky about the facts considering it is science fiction…
Things I learned from this movie :
- You can’t outrun certain zombies.
- Futuristic Britain has strict gun laws.
- Don’t go to a zombie fight without a bazooka or tank.
- Don’t kiss your wife if she escapes from an encounter with zombies.
- London sucks, with or without zombies.
- People named “Don” shouldn’t be trusted, even if they are dead.

London like you’ve never seen it before
28 Weeks Later is the horrific tale of a virus that sweeps through England. The viral strain is particularly devastating with its effect on human beings. Once infected, people become deranged flesh-eating beasts. The virus rapidly overwhelms and destroys communities, towns and cities.
28 weeks after the last infections have been contained, the American military decides to allow Britons back into confined areas of the country. A strong military presence is needed to contain the disease. But a brother and sister are intent on recovering some of their personal items from a restricted area. What follows is nothing less than sheer mayhem. Bloodshed, carnage and all-out war cannot be avoided as the Americans try to prevent another deadly outbreak.
The film showcases extreme brutality and gore. It’s London as you’ve never seen it before. Not recommended for connoisseurs of fine cinema.
