5 new TV spots, 3 new posters a trailer and a featurette! We have the latest from The Hobbit, Elysium, Man of Steel, RED 2, The Wolverine & More!
The Wolverine has a decent new TV spot today, though I think it suffers a bit from trying to be a shortened version of the trailers. Very simply put, you can’t do the same things in 30 seconds as you can in 2 minutes. Just ask your mom. In 2 minutes (or sometimes more) you can actually weave a bit of a narrative, but in 30 seconds its best to just get some major themes, action scenes or critical reviews in with cool CGI to get folks excited. Man of Steel has done a great job of this, with some TV spots focusing on Lois Lane, some on General Zod, and others on Superman’s parents. See the two trailers in the next section for a great view of what critics are saying. This Wolverine spot, on the other hand, is too ambitious, and I just feel like the film will be too rushed, which is ridiculous, as the trailers look fine, but that’s the impression from this spot. FOR SHAME.
Man of Steel
First, I saw Man of Steel last night, and it was outstanding. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. The two people I saw it with were split over their enjoyment, but I loved it. The film is also doing very well, having made over $50 million already, and a sequel has already been greenlit. Awesome. Anyways, check out two very cool TV spots with some new video clips. Very cool.
I’m not really sold on RED 2. I saw the first one a little while back, and it was fun enough, but I see little reason to return to this world. The only thing I think I, or anyone else, will get from the film is seeing Helen Mirren act like a badass. Everything else seems sorta boring by comparison.
This poster for Elysium is decent, but after the latest trailer it could be a steaming pile of Canadian poop (the most vile kind of poop) and I’d still be calling this my most anticipated film of the rest of the year (since I already saw Man of Steel). Nice neck tattoos, Matt Damon.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
I think I called it the other day when I said I wouldn’t be interested in any more posters for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters until they show the hot chick.
This has to be the most basic, boring poster of all time. The only redeeming quality is Amber Heard. Pretty. Nonetheless, if Paranoia is as boring as this poster it’ll be a total snore.
Only God Forgives
Only God Forgives has a new theatrical trailer, and it looks really cool. There’s certainly some weird stuff with Ryan Gosling and his mother in the film, played by Kristen Scott Thomas, but the action and concept seem really cool. A gangster out to avenge his brother, who was killed by a corrupt police officer in Thailand? Yeah, I like that.
Unfortunately, the reviews have not been great. DANG IT.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has a new featurette on New Zealand, and how beautiful the country really is. I have to be honest, it’s gorgeous, but I think I’ve seen this same featurette for all four of the already released Lord of the Rings films. The one cool thing about this one though is that they really built Hobbiton for the new films, and the massive success of the films, along with New Zealand’s embracing of the films, ensures the little town will live on as a tourist attraction. There’s really a place for you to go and check out the quaint little town from Middle Earth. Very cool indeed.
