New video for The Hobbit, Despicable Me 2 and Rise of the Guardians, artwork for Oz the Great and Powerful, and rating news for Riddick.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has a new TV spot that’s a bit more of a ‘prequel’ video, rather than setting up the new series. What I mean is that there’s a part at the beginning that mentions a darkness rising, and of course those of us who’ve seen the original Lord of the Rings trilogy know, this darkness is the return of Sauron. The rest of the film is about Bilbo being a chickenshit and Gandalf believing in him.

Despicable Me 2

Despicable Me 2 has a new trailer that I don’t believe has much of anything to do with the film, but it’s charming as crap and a lot of fun regardless. In it, the little yellow minions are babysitting a little kid when aliens abduct them. The aliens didn’t want the cat though, which makes no sense, as we all know aliens are all about the kitties. Weird.

Rise of the Guardians

Rise of the Guardians has a new featurette that explains the film’s version of Santa Claus. This Santa is a bit more of a badass, and it’s actually kinda cool to see them explain that Santa is different everywhere. For instance, in my house, Santa means no chores for half an hour.

The rest of the time I have to carry large boulders that weigh several tons back and forth across the yard. Mom and dad do this to me to help expend some of my excess energy, which would make sleepy hazardous, as I can punch holes in the universe with my super strength.

True story.

Oz the Great and Powerful

Oz the Great and Powerful has a bit of new artwork, and it shows, I believe, the Wicked Witch. Personally, I think the Wicked Witch is actually Mila Kunis, who transforms after James Franco’s Oz breaks her heart.

A woman scorned and all that. Anyone agree?

Riddick

Vin Diesel has been pushing to make a new Riddick film for a while now, but he’s also been vocal that the film be rated R. It appears he’s gotten his wish. The last Riddick film was PG-13, and generally a big turd, so the fact that they’re making this one to be more legit, perhaps even too legit to quit, is a good thing I think. Hopefully this means it’ll be more like Pitch Black and less like The Chronicles of Riddick. Hopefully.
