Movie news for The Great Gatsby, The Hunger Games, and more!

Pics from the set of The Great Gatsby, new trailers for Apollo 18 and The Hunger Games, and Gangster Squad and Oldboy casting.

The Great Gatsby

I don’t feel they can do a lot better job of adapting The Great Gatsby than the version starring Robert Redford, primarily because Redford just seems so perfect as Jay Gatsby, but if you’re going to do it again, casting Leonardo Dicaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire is a good start. This film may not suck ass. These pictures aren’t of them filming, I think they’re just practicing some driving with old-timey cars. Looks good.

Apollo 18

I honestly don’t know what to make of Apollo 18. At one point I’d completely written it off, since they hired a director last November for a March release date, but then they wisely pushed back the release, so maybe the director had enough time to make the film the right way. I don’t know. The trailers are boring for the most part, but sometimes these found footage films can be scary. I am perplexed.

The Hunger Games

I give the filmmakers credit, this is how I pictured The Hunger Games when I read it. Also, it looks like shit. Which is how I pictured it.

Gangster Squad

I hope there’s a sequel to Gangster Squad called Gangsta Squad, and it’s crazy racist. Anyways, director Ruben Fleischer has been casting the crap out of this movie, with Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, and… Anthony Mackie (huh?) already part of the cast. But today comes word that they finally have a truly great actor. An actor that is the epitome of class and distinction. That’s right, I’m talking about Nick Nolte. It’s a great day to be alive.

Oldboy

I feel like I just mentioned Josh Brolin. Oh, yeah, I did. So he’s also joined the cast of Oldboy. So he’s replacing Will Smith. I have no idea how to interpret this move. One Man in Black for another? That’s insane.
