Van Helsing Reboot news, new trailers for Looper and Total Recall, and pics from Jack Reacher and Man of Steel.

Van Helsing

Good Lord are the filmmakers behind the Van Helsing reboot morons. I love how every guy with half a brain these days makes certain to reference The Dark Knight when talking about their film. Just because that film kicked all sorts of ass that doesn’t mean you should take the same approach. Dark, gritty and realistic isn’t always best. Sometimes you just have to go for the over-the-top comic book action. Like The Avengers. That was most definitely NOT based in reality. It was way out there, and it had to be because of the collection of characters. Van Helsing is like that. He fights vampires. Sure, you could go the Blade route or something and perhaps even do a great job of it, but it doesn’t need to be rooted in reality.

Anyways, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing the new Van Helsing film, which is set to star Tom Cruise. Kurtzman had this to say about the film:

“Well, I don’t want to give away too much, because we are actually at the very beginning of talking about what to do with it. But I do feel like the Van Helsing that Anthony Hopkins plays in [Bram Stoker’s] Dracula is sort of the parody version of it, and the Van Helsing that Hugh Jackman played was obviously in a different place as well. I think that these kinds of movies have evolved a lot since then. You know, The Dark Knight was a major, major corner-turning moment in the way that genre and superhero stories could be told. Really grounded in reality. Really grounded in really cool things. That’s what I’d like to do without sacrificing the fantasy element. We aspired to do that as well on Trek, you know, keep it “real.” That’s such a different franchise than Batman, but that’s really what we wanted to do. And we’d love to do that with Van Helsing.”

Looper

Looper has a pretty cool new international trailer that fully explains the plot of the film, which is both good and bad in my eyes. I knew that the basic premise was that an assassin who kills guys from the future has to kill himself, but now I know why Bruce Willis has come back, and that kinda sucks cause it takes the surprise of the film. At the same time it’s not the best of reasons… so screw it. Looks cool.

Total Recall

This Total Recall trailer doesn’t give away too much info, but it does show a lot of badass action in the film and raises some of the film’s questions about reality. Unfortunately, it’s a Len Wiseman film and it doesn’t have a whole lot of real ‘thinking’ going on.

Oh, and there’s a three boobed chick, but you don’t get to see them. Yet…

Jack Reacher

My GOD, what a man Jack Reacher is. He must be able to punch a bull and have that bull TAP OUT. It happens. IT… HAPPENS.

Does anyone else wish the car would roll backward and he’d get hit by the door?

Man of Steel damn well BETTER have a trailer with The Dark Knight Rises. I wanna see it.

To tide me over there’s a new photo from the set that shows a young Clark Kent with crazy hair and clothing that could only be pulled off by a farm boy. Also, I have to give them credit for casting a kid that looks a hell of a lot like Henry Cavill. Not bad.
