The Wolverine just released this year, and Days of Future Past is coming to theaters next year, where Wolverine will again play a major role, but after that Hugh Jackman is iffy about reprising the role. In an interview with Vanity Fair, when asked about another Wolverine sequel, he replied:
I don’t know whether or not I will do this next movie. I am really proud of this movie and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That’s exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn’t reach those, I won’t be doing it.
Now, we don’t know if he’s genuinely concerned about the quality, or if he’s holding out for more money. Downey Jr. money. It could be either, but based on what I’ve learned about human nature during my time on earth, I’m guessing it’s the latter. Jackman is to the X-Men movies, what Robert Downey Jr. is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: an international superstar whose face on posters can pull people to theaters all around the world. Jackman also revealed that the sequel that Fox is reportedly working on, doesn’t have a script yet:
No there is not but Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and no writer yet so it’s a way off.
Wolverine is one of the most popular Marvel characters, and Jackman, today, is arguably one of Hollywood’s most popular and reliable actors. It’s a perfect match. Will the studios let it go? Or will we get ten more mediocre solo Wolverine movies, while Deadpool fans make do with poorly made fanfilms? What do you want? Have we had enough of Wolverine, and is it time to let him go, or do you think there are other actors that can replace Jackman? Tell us below in the comments, bub!
