Hannibal the Conqueror (2011)

“We will either find a way, or make one.” –Hannibal.

Star and current director Vin Diesel is hard at work (and has been for years) at making a film about the life of Hannibal, the Carthaginian military commander, a man whom many consider one of the greatest strategists of all time.

Who’s It For?

Still too early to tell the rating, but considering the tone of Hannibal’s life, expect it to be R.

What’s Good About It?

Vin Diesel has charisma, and he seems genuinely passionate about the film, having worked on it since 2002-2003. Fast and Furious showed he still has pull at the box office. People just want to see him in something decent.

What’s Bad About It?

Diesel has little experience directing, and nothing anywhere near the scale of Hannibal. These type of films prove challenging even to great directors, so he may not be able to handle it.

Our Clever Prediction

Hard to say. Hannibal is an interesting character, and would be great on film. The studio has been hesitant to greenlight the film, even after Fast and Furious, and the rumor is because they want a more competent director than Diesel. Oh, and do you think brilliant military strategist when you see Vin Diesal? I usually wonder what happened to his sleeves.
