Hanna (2011)

Saoirse Ronan is ‘Hanna’, a girl who was raised a little differently. Hanna tells the story of a young girl who has been trained by her father to be a cold blooded killer who now needs to learn how to be a little girl.

In what should be a sequel to Kick-Ass where Hit-Girl learns to live again, but it’s directed by Joe Wright (a good thing) so instead of over the top craziness, it’ll probably be more of a beautifully shot character piece.

The Story

Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is raised in the wilds of Finland by her father, (Eric Bana ) an ex-CIA agent who trains her to be the perfect assassin. She has all the strength, speed, and stamina of a soldier, with all the deadly skills as well. Sent on a mission by her father, Hanna travels across Europe while evading enemies close on her tail, all the while discovering much about her existence and the things she’s missed by not being a normal teenaged girl.

Director Joe Wright has quickly become one of my favorites. Not just because of his affinity for Keira Knightley (she will be mine), but also because he consistently makes quality dramas. His work with the composers making interesting soundtracks (especially on Atonement) give his work a different feel than most other films.

What’s Good About It?

I’m really excited about Hanna. The thought of Joe Wright doing a character driven action film with Jason Bourne style fighting? Awesome. Saoirse Ronan is one of the better young actresses today, and having Cate Blanchett and to a lesser extent Eric Bana supporting her should make Hanna one of the better movies next year.

What’s Bad About It?

I got nothing. This movie should be awesome.

Our Clever Prediction

I don’t think the box office will be huge, but it should be solid, and I think the critics will love Hanna.
