Years of waiting are finally here, as The Pacific starts March 2010. Set in the same fashion as Band Of Brothers, The Pacific takes us on another real life journey through some of the bloodies battles of WW2.

A 10-part mini-series from the creators of “Band of Brothers” telling the intertwined stories of three Marines during America’s battle with the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II.

The Pacific

From Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman — the producing team behind the Emmy® Award-winning and Golden Globe-winning 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers — comes an epic ten-part miniseries event.

THE PACIFIC tracks the intertwined real-life journeys of three U.S. Marines across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World War II. The miniseries follows these men and their fellow Marines from their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu, across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and through the horror of Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day.

Why you care

Because everything you, and I, have today is because of the dedication and bravery of these men, and warriors of all allied forces of WW1 & WW2. Taking a little time to learn about the contributions of you fellow man, is the least you can do.

The Pacific Trailer

Click here to view the embedded video.

Release Date

The Pacific begins March 14th 2010

What’s Good About It?

Sacrifice, dedication and bravery. The Pacific has some of the most talented production team in the world behind it.

What’s Bad About It?

The lack of respect for our veterans, no matter which country they come from.

Our Clever Prediction

If you fell in love with Band Of Brothers, you’ll fall in love all over again with The Pacific.

In Episode 5, Shadow Games, Batiatus is presented with a gladiatorial opportunity of a lifetime. Spartacus and Crixus must overcome their mutual hostility to fight as a team against a legendary and unbeaten opponent, Theokoles.

Shadow Games

Episode 5 starts out quite slow compared to the previous Spartacus shows, but finishes with a bang. For the first time, we are presented with a bit of a cliffhanger, as Crixus may be fatally wounded in the epic battle to defeat Theokoles.

Shadow Games was all about the ‘bonding’ between Crixus and Spartacus, and finally a common bond that can bring them together.

The battle between the two gladiators and Theokoles could have been better, but it was suffice. Awesome makeup and presence for this legendary warrior Theokoles. He is shown being carried off the arena on a stretcher, so I guess he is dead?

Batiatus discovers the people behind his assassination, while his ‘loving’ wife Lucretia finally spills her secret about her and Crixus to Ilithya. Something tells me this is going to get ugly soon.

The Action

All the action in this episode was saved for the final 10 minutes, as Theokoles is brought to his knees and beheaded.

What was good about it?

Spartacus proves his worth as a gladiator, and Theokoles was an intimidating foe.

What’s bad about it?

Listen, I’ve had about enough of the writers showing the penis of Crixus, in every episode now.

The Verdict

Shadow Warrior was still a good addition to the series, but it was the slowest of all episodes so far.

So I caught ‘Taking Chance’ yesterday on HBO and came away from the film with a couple of new outlooks. First, Kevin Bacon is still a powerful actor, and secondly, I still get emotional during movies when done properly.

The Truth

Taking Chance is based on a true story, about a man (Kevin Bacon) who elects to escort the body of a fallen soldier back to Wyoming. The body is that of 19yr old Marine Chance Phelps, who Strobl decides to ensure gets the respect he deserves along the way.

This powerful film delivers a ton of emotional moments and the journey is very moving. I really enjoyed how the director Ross Katz pays tribute to the soldier, with his numerous scenes along the way. Small tokens of affection are demonstrated throughout the film that remind the audience of the respect that should be shown to all military, no matter what country they are from.

Bacon really nails the role of hardened, yet saddened, Col Mike Stroble. The supporting cast delivers excellent scenes of compassion for the dead marine, it really moves you.

Taking Chance is an important film because it shows the impact of the military on the small town, the rural town and communities that make up the allied forces. Don’t be fooled though, this isn’t just about an American soldier, it is respect to all the military men and women who serve all nations in the Gulf.

Why should I watch it?

Because Taking Chance if full of moving and powerful situations the demonstrate the compassion of strangers who, when given the chance, always respect a soldier.

The Verdict

Taking Chance was a wonderful, moving and often sad film, that delivered 2 hours of thought provoking film. I very much recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful drama, that will bring a tear to your eye.

An extraterrestrial race arrives on Earth with seemingly good intentions, only to slowly reveal their true machinations the more ingrained into society they become.

The Truth

‘V’ is a continuation of the 1983 TV series, that was midly successful. I watched the pilot episode on ABC last night with a pretty open mind, I thought the previous series was ok, nothing special.

However, it didn’t take long for me to lose interest in the pilot episode. Was it the apparent over-acting and weak cast? Was it the hype for a series that should never have been remade in the first place? I’m not sure, but V did very little to hold my interest this time around.

I found the character Elizabeth Mitchell plays to be a little too over the top in her role as over-protective FBI mom Erica Evans. I also found the characters generally uninteresting and blah.

Morris Chestnut plays the role of ‘angry black guy who can kick some ass when he has to’ , although we already know he’s a reptilian from day one.

Will the hype be enough to push the series into a successful time slot? I don’t know for sure, but I know one thing.. the pilot episode didn’t leave me craving fore more.

The Action

Corny fighting scenes and little else.

The Effects

I’ll give props when they are due. V had excellent special effects for a TV show, well done. The mother ship looked great.

What’s good about it?

A sexy alien race invading our planet gives us hope for the future.

What’s bad about it?

They want our resources and to exterminate us in the process. The Obama metaphor was also horrible.

“Embrace hope and change, humans! We are just like you! We will bring universal health care, also.”

No pacing. Shoved like 4 episodes into one and just told us everything instead of showing. It was more like crime drama.

You’ll Like ‘V’ It If

Fans of the original series ‘V’ may like it.

What I learned form ‘V’

We are all suckers for a pretty face. Scott Wolf isn’t dead.

The Verdict

I’ll give the series one more chance to gain my interest, until then it wasn’t a memorable pilot episode for ABC, or Tuesday nights.

Madman Entertainment, Lionsgate and Showtime Networks Inc., have teamed up to present an edgy and ground-breaking stand-up comedy series – White Boyz In The Hood premiering on SHOWTIME Thursday, October 5, at 11 PM ET/PT.

From Richard Pryor to Chris Rock, many black comics have developed brilliant material from the dynamic relationship between the black and white cultures in America. White Boyz In The Hood turns that concept on its head in a classic fish-out-of-water premise; white comedians playing to an urban audience. Created by Madman Entertainment’s Founder and President Anthony Maddox, his partner Peter Griffith, and Lionsgate Vice President Malik Ducard, White Boyz In The Hood will feature 30 comedians, most of whom have honed their craft at urban clubs across the country.

“White Boyz In The Hood, as socially vulnerable as the title may seem, is a glimpse into a world of comedy void of barriers and xenophobia,” said Maddox. “These performers are the Larry Birds of comedy in that they can go into any space, any room, and perform on a high level. They can transcend race and culture and that’s what we’ll see in this series. Funny is funny, doesn’t matter where you live.”
