A hedonistic jingle writer’s freewheeling life comes to an abrupt halt when his brother and young nephew move into his beachfront house. Charlie, a well-to-do bachelor suddenly has his lifestyle interrupted when his younger and tightly wound brother, Alan, moves in with him after his divorce bringing with him his son, Jake.

Two and a Half Men

Well, that was what the series was used to be about anyway… But with all the big changes on the show, we shall see as not much has been revealed. Most likely it will still cover dating, divorce, sex, money, love and single parenthood as these has made this comedy show a hit.

The Characters

Charlie Harper is a jingle/children’s song writer who is a constant womanizer, drinks excessively and loves to smoke cigars and gamble.

Alan Harper is Charlie’s chiropractor younger brother who is a divorced father to Jake. He is conscientious and has little luck with women.

Jake Harper is Alan’s son. He’s underachieving and lazy.

Berta is Charlie’s sharp-tongued housekeeper.

Evelyn Harper is Charlie and Alan’s conceited mother and Jake’s grandmother. She is a high powered LA broker/realtor.

Judith Harper-Melnick is Alan’s vindictive, self-absorbed ex-wife and Jake’s mother.

Walden Schmidt, a broken-hearted internet billionaire who purchases Charlie’s house

Season 8 Recap

Charlie started to behave erratically, thrashing hotel rooms, went to rehab, became a warlock and had tiger’s blood, shacking up with porn stars whom he calls “goddesses” and started calling Alan a troll—woah, wait a minute… sorry, that’s not Charlie Harper, that’s Charlie Sheen…

Alright, if you’re really wanna know… the season ended with Alan and Lyndsey broken up. Charlie was hooking up with his long-time obsessed stalker who’s supposedly “married” Rose. They decided to spend a weekend in Paris with Charlie planning to propose. There were supposed to be 8 more episodes in Season 8 but production was halted when Charlie (the actor) had to go to rehab. But with his subsequent crazy antics post-rehab, they fired his ass from the show.

If you ask me, real life was way more interesting than what happened on TV.

Season 9

With Charlie’s departure (more like forced exit), it left a huge hole on the show. So they had to come up with a new character to fill in Charlie’s absence. Many actors were rumored to take his place but eventually it was announced that a new character, Walden Schmidt, a broken-hearted internet billionaire will buy Charlie’s house (of course, still allowing Alan and Jake to live there).

As for Charlie, the character? Well, he dies. Apparently, he cheats on crazy Rose and the next day he has an “accident” involving a moving train. The series starts with a funeral for Charlie (with lots of special guest stars) and the introduction of the new character. They have been very hush-hush about the new developments, not much has been announced on how it will change the series. A new character will definitely shift the dynamics in the old Harper household. The question is, will it be good for the show?

Season 9 Premiere

September 19, 2011 (MONDAY), 9/8c on CBS

The premiere opened to very high numbers, but I wonder if how many of those watched it for curiosity’s sake. I also wonder if how many will be watching it again. The show had a few digs against the real Charlie and it feels like the show got sidetracked on this and got a bit mean. It didn’t reveal much (yet) on how the series will move on from there. But it seems that the Walden character will pick up from where the Charlie character left off (He ends up having a threesome in Charlie’s bed after picking up two girls at the bar). If this is the direction they are heading, then it’s pretty much the same show, only a different guy will be playing the lead. I thought they’d be very creative with this new character, but then, it’s too early to tell.

Based on, like, the 12-15 minutes he appeared in the episode, it felt like Walden was just “smarter” version of Kelso, didn’t really fill the void that Charlie left. But then, seeing Ashton Kutcher strut around naked…I decided to give him a chance. So in a few episodes, we shall see if the show is still a hit with the new guy around… or will it tank and declare that Charlie Sheen is winning? (sorry, I couldn’t help it).

Night Shift Supervisor Catherine Willows and newcomer Dr. Raymond Langston are assisted by the other members of the team: investigators Nick Stokes, Greg Sanders and Riley Adams, a former St. Louis police officer who recently joined the department; Dr. Al Robbins, the chief medical examiner, and prickly trace technician David Hodges. Also working on cases with the CSI team is Capt. Jim Brass, a homicide detective with the Las Vegas Police Department.
