NYC band zerobridge recently sent me their new cd ‘There We Were, Now Here We Are’ and I was lucky enough to get a first listen. (Thanks Loni!)

The Truth

zerobridge has a unique sound that takes me back to my younger days in the 80’s. Their music reminds me of The Cure, and the single ‘There We Were, Now Here We Are’ is a wickedly fun song.

The first single “2mins5” (pronounced two-minutes-five) is a punchy pop-rock gem, rounding up the likes of U2, New Order, The Clash.

Lead singer/guitarist and songwriter Mubashir “Din” Mohi-ud-Din and drummer Mohsin “Mo” Mohi-ud-Din are two brothers whose parents are from the disputed territory of Kashmir.

The CD

“There We Were, Now Here We Are”
01. 2mins5
02. There We Were, Now Here We Are
03. Venus In Arms
04. How Long
05. TWA
06. It Is What It Is

The Band

The name zerobridge comes from an actual bridge in Kashmir’s capital, Srinagar, which earned the lesser known epithet of the “the city of seven bridges.” The story goes that when they built an 8th bridge, no one knew what to call the original first bridge.

The solution is a case of pragmatics taken to the extreme: they decided to name it zerobridge. The bridge itself is a sentimental place for anyone familiar with Kashmir. Just across the bridge, after passing through military checkpoints and barbed wire fences, is a cafe called the Zero Inn; a place where the bothers, family and friends go when reunited in Kashmir to hang out and have “cold coffees” (which are like frapucinos, but far better according to the brothers).

Din explains his feeling behind zerobridge’s independent release of the “There We Were, Now Here We Are” EP: “We’ve been STRICTLY independent for as long as we’ve been together and maybe even more than we would like to be. We’ve accumulated a catalog of songs that no one’s heard outside our regional fan base and have not recorded until now.

It seems that in this digital age for music, what better way for a band like us to establish ourselves and get our music heard the way we want to make it sound than to use the internet as our distribution company. It’s still a challenge. Creating music still takes time and money, but it’s on our terms and while I still think they are necessary, we don’t have to deal with labels – just directly with music fans.”

You’ll Like It If

Looking for a modern take on an edgy period in time? You’ll love Zerobridge.

The Verdict

Great sound, great vocals and vibe. Zerobridge are a promising band looking to breakout this year. Their song ‘There We Were, Now Here We Are’ is featured in the new Oren Moverman directed movie “The Messenger”.

What you need to know

ACDC Black Ice

The 15th albumn from the rockers down under, ACDC is going to be released Oct 18th to the public. their first album in eight years, since the release of Stiff Upper Lip in 2000.

Track Listing for Black Ice

# Title Length
1. “Rock ‘n Roll Train” 4:21
2. “Skies on Fire” 3:34
3. “Big Jack” 3:57
4. “Anything Goes” 3:22
5. “War Machine” 3:09
6. “Smash ‘n’ Grab” 4:06
7. “Spoilin’ for a Fight” 3:17
8. “Wheels” 3:28
9. “Decibel” 3:34
10. “Stormy May Day” 3:10
11. “She Likes Rock ‘n Roll” 3:53
12. “Money Made” 4:15
13. “Rock ‘n’ Roll Dream” 4:41
14. “Rocking All the Way” 3:22
15. “Black Ice” 3:25

The Verdict

Black Ice is the best ACDC album I have heard since Back In Black, its not even close. This collection of tunes is a throwback to the ACDC I used to love as a headbanging lad in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Anything Goes was a real treat, a softer side of ACDC shines through with perfection. War Machine and Big Jack are as addictive and head pounding as Back in Black and Whole Lotta Rosie. Yeah, no kidding.. this album is that sweet.

Brian Johnson is wicked as usual, Angus Young is pounding out his classic riffs like he’s 20 years old. God bless you ACDC for giving us a classic rock and a reminder of what Rock n Roll is supposed to be.

Thank you for getting the sounds of pop music, rap and horrible computer generated rhythm out of my head.

Black Ice is a phenomenal album, best Rock Album this year no question. Take that you pathetic rock diva loving, mainstream fembots.

Rock On!

As a longstanding memeber of the KISS ARMY, I can’t hardly explain how excited I was to receive my KISSOLOGY DVD collection just the other day. All those childhood years dressing up as Gene Simmons for Halloween finally paid off, it was just me and 5 DVD’s of concert footage and rock n roll.

With the wife upstairs, tucked into bed and the kids now asleep.. it was my time to reconnect with my youth, with Peter, Paul, Gene and Ace..

The Verdict : Kissology delivers! The DVD starts with the boys rocking out in Detroit. Its not your typical concert footage, which I really enjoyed. I felt like I was in the crowd with these old fashioned camera angles. The sound quality is really good, the image quality is what you’d expect from live concert footage.

This isn’t the same production value as Metallica’s “Some Kind of Monster”, and I’m happy about that. I enjoy the raw footage this collection brings together, I’d be happy to sit through this time and time again.

A must-own for any KISS fan, the nearly ten hours of live KISS includes a total of six complete concerts, the MTV “Unplugged” show and an exclusive MTV “Unplugged” Behind-the-scenes documentary.

Teaser :

“Nothin’ To Lose” : “Detroit Rock City”:

The Verdict :

If you have Kissolgoy 1&2, you have to have Volume 3. If you are a KISS fan, KISSOLOGY volume 3 is a must have for your collection.

If you care, you can read about my experience with this new killer amp!

The good : Great power, easy to use and setup. 4 hdmi inputs, 3 component video and more power than I know what to do with. I had the amp setup, and configured in an hour. The amp looks, and sounds great. Here’s all the specs on this beast : Yamaha V3800

The Bad : The amp is having problems connecting via hdmi to my motorola HD PVR. I have to run component video to my amp and sacrifice a little video performance. Takes some time to dial in my living room layout dimensions. Having problems setting up my second zone. Somewhat slow in video switching.
