So a Child’s Play remake is being planned for the year 2014 now. We had reported this as a 2011 release, then a 2012 release.. and now they got the legal stuff worked out. Chucky needs to be reintroduced to the next generation of children.

Child’s Play 2014

We can confrim Jennifer Tilly will not be in the remake, but Catherine Hicks will be back as ‘Karen’. Also, no word yet on who will play Andy Barclay.

Child’s Play (2014) will tell the story of Chucky, all over again, but leave the comedy out. No more ‘side splitting’ Chucky, but the new Child’s Play movie will be very dark and disturbing, holding true to it’s original roots. In the Child’s Play movie, serial killer Charles Lee Ray gets gunned down by the police, and transfers his soul into a doll just before he dies. Days later, Andy Barclay gets the same doll for his birthday. In order for Charles (Chucky) to transfer his soul out of the doll, he must preform a voodoo chant on the first person he told his true identity to… Andy.

Why you care

I’m not sure anyone cares for this remake, but I do. I like the ridiculousness of the Child’s Play franchise, and a more serious take on this franchise would do it some justice. Chucky’s twisted little mind, and remarks usually make for an entertaining movie, and with the new generation of CGI I think the new Chucky Doll will look pretty good.

Huge delays and legal battles, have bumped the new Child’s Play Movie back to a July 2014 release. I was looking forward to this, so I suppose having to wait for a better product in 2014 is only better for us. Apparently there was a huge battle over who owned the rights to the franchise and it has been settled. The original film belonged to MGM, but Universal bought the rights to the sequels.

Who’s In It?

Rumor has it Catherine Hicks will be in this one, while Danny Trejo has also confirmed interest.. Brad Dourif will do the voice for Chucky , which fans of the series will appreciate. 

What’s Good About it?

Actually, the Chucky franchise was pretty decent at one time, he’s laughable, cute and frightening all at the same time. So, with this new Child’s Play movie we expect more of the same, and we can live with that.

What’s Bad About It?

Director Don Mancini hasn’t done a thing other than the Chucky franchise.

Our Clever Prediction

The Child’s Play franchise was destroyed by ‘Bride Of Chucky’ etc.. not sure how they can get this back to its origins. Will they make it 3D? Still, its a loyal following, we won’t be shocked if its a 50 Million dollar film if released around Halloween.

If you are like me, you’ll welcome the news of the upcoming sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick, called ‘Riddick’, which is looking to be completed for 2013 (no longer a 20011 release because of all the delays). Vin Diesel is back in production as he looks to complete the final chapter in the Riddick movie series.

Our Clever Prediction

We were big fans of both prequels, so yeah…. we like the idea of a new Riddick movie.

The Sitter is a comedy about a suspended college student living with his mother who agrees to babysit some neighbor kids, and then the craziness begins.

The Sitter stars Jonah Hill, so you can figure what the style of humor is based on that. It’ll probably be something like Get Him to the Greek, but they’re billing it as a mix of Superbad and Adventures in Babysitting, so we’ll all just pretend that doesn’t sound awful and go see it. Actually, the film really is a remake of Adventures in Babysitting but don’t tell anyone.

The Sitter

The Sitter is being directed by David Gordon Green, who directed The Pineapple Express and the forthcoming Your Highness. Let’s consider this. He has two films coming out in a relatively short period of time. Is he a hack? Is it really possible for a director to have one film come out in April and another in August and for those two films not to suck? I say no, but then I think that Your Highness has been completed for a while and the studio has just been waiting for the right time to release it. It’s possible. If that is the case, then The Sitter may not be so bad.

But it probably will be. Consider that Pineapple Express and Your Highness flopped to epic proportions. Your Highness lost around 30 million dollars, not good for an aspiring film maker. Good luck David, this is your last chance at success. Jonah Hill hasn’t exactly been on fire lately, his last starring role was in Cyrus, which barely broke 7 million at the box office. The Sitter is really important to a lot of people, I’m actually hoping it does well since Hill has a likeable quality we want to see more of.

Who’s It For?

The Sitter is a comedy for adults, who are in the need of a good chuckle and appreciate the angle this movie is taking. Its like an R rated version on the 80′s movie Adventures In Babysitting, and I actually look forward to checking this out.

What’s Good About It?

The premise, while kinda weak and derivative, could be funny with Jonah Hill.

On the other hand, Jonah Hill isn’t all that good, and he can’t really elevate bad material to something watchable. That’s why Jim Carrey makes the big bucks.

Our Clever Prediction

With the director pulling double duty, I would guess the film won’t be terribly successful. On the other hand, it is being released on August 5, which is a good time for a summer comedy, so the studio appears to have faith in The Sitter. It’ll probably be underwhelming, but I doubt it’ll fail too hard.

Rampart is a gritty police drama set in the 1990s, and centers on a police officer who is suspected of a whole lot of bad behavior, even as he tries to survive the mean streets and take care of his family.

First, from the trailer and what I’ve read, the cop, Dave Brown (played by Woody Harrelson) isn’t exactly a good guy. I think he might be a bit of an abusive prick who mistreats his ex, and beats the crap out of black people because he’s racist.

Oh, and the tag line of the film is, “The most corrupt cop you’ve ever seen on screen.” So he’s a jerk.

Rampart

Oren Moverman, who wrote the sorta-Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There, wrote and directed Rampart. He was also attached for a time to an unconventional Kurt Cobain biopic, which might have been similar to I’m Not There, but he dropped out of that, likely because Courtney Love is two scoops of batshit crazy.

He also wrote and directed The Messanger, which garnered Woody Harrelson an Academy Award Nomination, and he got a nomination out of it himself for Best Original Screenplay. The Messenger also starred Ben Foster, who has a part in Rampart as well. Good stuff.

What’s Good About It?

This combination of actors and writer/director has yielded some great results in the past, and the reviews for Rampart thus far have been absolutely outstanding, with a very real possibility that Woody Harrelson winning an Academy Award. This bodes well.

I doubt Rampart will make much money, but with Academy Award nominations it might end up doing pretty darn well. Be on the lookout for it come award season.

I Melt with You is a drama about 4 college friends who reunite in their 40s and realize they are EMPTY INSIDE.

I should clarify. By “empty inside” I don’t mean hungry. I mean they have NO SOUL. Basically, the four friends have a wild night and realize that even though they’re supposed to be having a ton of fun, it doesn’t feel the same as in college, and their lives are meaningless. It’s almost like they’re blogging about movie news.

Mark Pellington is directing I Melt with You, from a screenplay by Glenn Porter. Pellington has directed a lot of music videos and documentaries, although he did direct The Mothman Prophecies, which is… good? I can barely remember it. Must’ve been good.

Currently, I Melt with You is getting a limited release. It doesn’t look good for the film to make much money.

In the Land of Blood and Honey is Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut. The story follows an unfortunate love set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War.

Angie won’t be in the film, but she has employed local actors for greater authenticity, so it should look relatively realistic. The story, while mostly kept under wraps, is about a Bosnian-Muslim woman who falls in love with a Bosnian War Criminal.

Anyways, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the film, as many people protested the Muslim woman falling in love with a man who represents a group of people who very harshly treated Muslims. So it’s a sort of star-crossed lovers thing. But with tanks.

What’s Good About It?

The trailer for In the Land of Blood and Honey looks really good, and I like a combination of love, war, and criminals.

What’s Bad About It?

There might be more controversy than quality. I worry that too much of the feedback for the film is righteous indignation, and if it wasn’t a hot button story, it might be a rather bland story.

I actually think Angelina Jolie has done a great job (based on the trailer) of proving herself as a director with In the Land of Blood and Honey. The story looks gripping, with enough room for the actors to do a great job. I see a couple Oscar nominations in it’s future.

The Rum Diary was a movie that was supposed to be released way back in 2009-2010, but was put on the shelf until now. The studios felt there was too much Depp at the time, so they waited for a downtime in his career to post this dramatic movie called, The Rum Diary.

Paul Kemp is a freelance journalist who comes across at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure position for he amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction.

Based on the debut novel by Hunter S. Thompson, “The Rum Diary” tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp). Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, The San Juan Star, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Albert Nobbs is about a woman who disguises herself as a man in order to live and work in society as she pleases. Then she falls in love with a hot young girl.

Man, this could be AWESOME.

Unfortunately, it won’t be. It will just be a really good period (not THAT kinda period, perv) drama that’ll get Glenn Close at least an Oscar nomination if not a win.

Albert (Close) is living in Ireland in the late 19th century, and poses as a man so she can get better work. After a time she wishes to escape from the lie she’s living, and that prove difficult. Cause of plot stuff.

I see at least a handful of Oscar nominations in Albert Nobbs’ future, and not just because of the ‘Oscar Bait’ concept. The performances all look solid.

The Warriors is a remake of the 1979 cult classic, about a NY Gang who are framed for killing the boss of the city’s top gang during a time of peace, sending them on a dangerous cross-city mission to get back to their home turf alive.

Warriors is a remake of the 1979 film, a movie that still holds up to this day. If for some reason you haven’t checked it out, I suggest you do so immediately. Ok, it has been confirmed by an inside source that the new Warriors movie will take place in NYC, not L.A ! Thank you! The Warriors belong in New York, the L.A version was shot down.

Warriors 2012

A rough and tumble NYC gang called The Warriors are framed for killing Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in New York. Cyrus has been trying to unite all the gangs in the area, so they can rule the city as one unit. When a big meeting for all the gangs is organized by Cyrus, the head of Gramercy Riffs, all hell breaks loose after Cyrus is shot. The Warriors are falsely accused of being the ones responsible, now they must make it back alive to Coney Island before retribution is taken.. back to their own turf.

The film is about their journey back to their own turf, the fights they endure.. and fighting to clear their name.

In the new movie, we are still unsure if they will write in the most memorable characters for the remake. We can only assume The Baseball Furies will most certainly be in this 2012 remake, as they should be. You can check out all the memorable gangs in the film below.

Shame is being directed by Steve McQueen. Before you get too excited, it isn’t the badass actor Steve McQueen. But it is the Steve McQueen that directed Michael Fassbender in Hunger, which was his big breakout film. And they’re back on Shame, and Carey Mulligan has been added into the mix! Awesome blossom!
