Casa De Mi Padre (2011)

CASA DE MI PADRE is a comedy starring Will Ferrell. It’s basically a spoof of telenovelas.

So Will Ferrell is playing Armando Alvarez, the son of a rancher who has worked on the ranch his whole life. Unfortunately, the ranch has fallen on hard times, and Armando fears they may lose everything. But, since there needs to be some plot device to keep this sucker moving, Armando’s brother Raul shows up. Raul has made a bunch of money as a businessman, and will settle the ranch’s debts. Two problems: Armando falls in love with Raul’s fiance, and Raul’s business dealings may be less than legit. Too legit to quit? (I just did the hand thing from the video)

After it becomes clear that Armando and Raul will not be able to save the ranch, they somehow end up in a feud with a local drug lord, and all hell breaks loose. At least, I presume.

Oh, and the film is in Spanish, with English subtitles. Too bad they don’t have the balls to just release it in Spanish with no subtitles, and let my imagination fill in the blanks. How cool would that be?

CASA DE MI PADRE

Matt Piedmont is directing CASA DE MI PADRE. You’ll probably remember him as David Spade’s assistant on Black Sheep. Not on film assistant, but behind the scenes. Wow. Oh, and he’s written for SNL and written/directed a lot of Funny or Die stuff, so he’s probably just really good friends with Will Ferrell.

What’s Good About It?

Oddly, I really like this idea. I like that Will Ferrell is actually doing something at least moderately different from The Good Guys, Talladega Nights, that basketball one, and basically the majority of the films he’s released. It’s good to see a guy with his kinda power flex his muscle and get something funny made.

What’s Bad About It?

It IS still a Will Ferrell movie, and I’ve barely laughed at him since Old School, and that movie has gone from unbelievably funny to overrated and annoying over the last few years. Oh, and if you disagree it’s because YOU’RE one of the people who has ruined it.

Our Clever Prediction

CASA DE MI PADRE might prove to be a hard sell, but I think it looks really funny, and I hope it makes some money so studios will take more chances like this. Of course, it could also end up being another Nacho Libre. UGH.

  1. This is literally the worst movie review I’ve ever read. Please explain how a movie (Old School) can change from “unbelievably funny to overrated and annoying over the past few years.” It’s the same movie, you idiot. Are you changing your opinion of it based on what other people say about it? That’s literally one of the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I hope your website fails miserably, and I’m sure it will.

  2. will fa\errell is amazing, and if you barely laugh at old school then u prolly one of those dull guys who like dane cook and the office, anyway been waiting for a year come out already dammit

  3. It looks like a really funny movie, very colorful and different. I heard that Will speaks very good Spanish, and the other actors are very hot and talented. This movie is a MUST SEE!
