Bucky Larson Born to Be a Star is the story of a small town boy who moves to Hollywood to become a porn star.

Bucky bags groceries in his small town in Minnesota until he learns that his conservative parents used to be porn stars. Feeling he has found his destiny, Bucky travels to Hollywood and tries to break into the business. At first, they laugh at him, but eventually they discover he might just have something to offer.

I’m betting it’s a huge dong.

Trailer

Unfortunately, here it is.

Bucky Larson

Bucky Larson Born to Be a Star is an Adam Sandler production, with one of his stable guys, Nick Swarsdon, in the lead. Tom Brady (not the football player banging Gisele Bundchen) is directing, and he directed other Sandler-produced films such as The Animal and The Comebacks, so you know he has the sensibilities of a retarded three year old.

The script was written by Swarsdon and Allan Covert, who is another of Sandler’s go-to guys, so it should fit in nicely with the other films he’s produced. Bucky Larson looks like the worst Sandler production yet, and until I’m proven wrong I have zero faith in this movie.  Still, Bucky Larson looks like every other bad Sandler film, with lots of stupid characters, fart jokes and uncomfortable scenes where they are all just phoning it in.

I don’t know what happened to Sandler, or Happy Madison productions, but they have managed to go from a comedic powerhouse to a joke of itself. Sandlers last three movies have been financial, and critical flops, with Bucky Larson soon to be in line for that prestigious honour. How HM productions created Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore and Big Daddy, is beyond me.

Who’s It For?

People who can’t get enough Sandler fart jokes.

Movie Release Date

Sept 8th 2011.

Who’s In It?

Christina Ricci … Kathy
Stephen Dorff … Dick Shadow
Don Johnson
Nick Swardson … Bucky Larson
Robin Bain
Pauly Shore … Himself/AFA Emcee
Edward Herrmann

What’s Good About It?

I’ve seen some of Swarsdon’s standup, and he’s a really funny guy, if he can bring that to the film, then it may be funny.

What’s Bad About It?

Everything, Bucky Larson is going to suck.

Our Clever Prediction

If Bucky Larson grosses more than 25 million I will lose all faith in humanity. This movie is going to be worse than Macruber, book it.

I wholeheartedly agree that Bucky Larson looks atrocious, but…

Sandler’s last three movies have been financial flops? That’s simply not true. Grown-Ups did $162 m at the US box office alone (fractionally behind Big Daddy -Sandler’s biggest ever) and was Sandler’s biggest ever money maker worldwide. And Just Go With It cleared $100m in the US, too.

Martin has already pointed out the error re: the director of The Animal. If you’re going to slaughter Sandler / Happy Madison, don’t make up ‘facts’ to support you.

I said critical and financial flops, which I am correct on. Zookeeper barely grossed its budget of 80 million, as was Just Go With It, which also scraped by the 85-90 million budget it set aside. Just Go With it may be the biggest pile of crap since Paul Blart.

By the way, you can take a film’s budget and double it for the breakeven point, in general.

  3. TOM BRADY DID NOT direct THE ANIMAL…if we are talking about the one with Rob Schnider, THE ANIMAL was directed by Luke Greenfield, who also directed THE GIRL NEXT DOOR (Elisha Cuthbert, Emile Hirsch)
