Arthur Christmas (2011)

Arthur Christmas is an animated film about how Santa Claus delivers presents to children all over the world in a single night.

Few details have been released about the film at present, as far as I can tell though, it does not involve the children’s character Arthur, who had a book entitled Arthur’s Christmas, but if honestly might be about him. He was a mouse who helped save Christmas.

So it turns out a creature was stirring, but only a mouse.

The Scoop

Barry Cook, who last directed Mulan over ten years ago, is on board to direct Arthur Christmas, and I have no idea what he’s been doing for the last decade. If it was me, I would have been doing women.

Doing women a lot of favors, that is.

What’s Good About It?

I’ve always enjoyed animated films about Christmas. Hopefully, this will be a classic like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or Frosty the Snowman or A Charlie Brown Christmas.

What’s Bad About It?

Too few details at present to make any quality assessment as to the possible quality of the film.

Our Clever Prediction

An animate film about Christmas could be huge. If it has some magic to it, I could see big numbers, and a long life of repeats during the holidays.

  1. The First Ever Christmas
The three gods, Artemis, Aphrodite and Apollo, are deep in conversation. They want to give a gift to every child in the world once a year on a day they will call Christmas Day and they have devised a plan of how this will happen.
The gods send an angel down to Earth to pick an apple from a tree and then magically turn the apple into a man. Today, we know this man as Saint Nicholas. However, one man alone cannot supply the entire world’s children with gifts and he knows he needs help.
Meanwhile, there is an ailing planet with a population of elves who are in search of a safer home. The elves come to Earth, thinking everything is fine and that they have found the perfect place, but again their world falls apart. With the help of a bird friend they eventually find their ideal home, meet Saint Nicholas and soon become a family.
Saint Nicholas wonders how he will carry all the gifts to the children in just one night. An angel tells him a reindeer has been born and this baby will be the one to help him deliver the gifts. The angel tells him to follow a star, which will lead him to the newborn.
And so the First Ever Christmas takes place.
