The Justice League Part One
The Justice League Part One is the first DC and Warner Bros film to unite all the DC superheroes under one banner. The news was out last October, when The Justice League Part One was announced as one of the 9 movies scheduled for release until 2020.
Obviously, since the release date is in late 2017, there is nothing known about the plot of the movie. But it can be expected for the newly formed Justice League to face some sort of cosmic threat.
Justice League Rumors
Thus, one of the first rumors concerning this movie saw Brainiac coming to Earth, with Superman realizing that this villain is too powerful just for him to defeat. As the rumor went, Brainiac found the same signal that attracted Zod and his crew to Earth. Realizing that it is a Kryptonian signal and knowing how advanced the Kryptonian civilization was, Brainiac set course and arrived to assimilate all the knowledge of the planet.
However, and quite expectedly, the studio and Zack Snyder (who will direct both The Justice League Part One and The Justice League Part Two) didn’t confirm any of these. And while it would have seemed plausible enough to have Brainiac as the first villain, it would have been a too big resemblance with what Marvel did with Avengers: Age of Ultron. The resemblance is that both Brainiac and Ultron are AIs.
Another rumor said that it would make sense to have Darkseid as the powerful villain to unite the Justice League. And it would have made sense simply because the current DC Movie Universe is based predominantly on the new 52 comics. Furthermore, this wouldn’t have meant the permanent defeat of Darkseid, but rather his chasing away from Earth. Obviously, sometime along the line, he would have returned.
As expected, this rumor wasn’t confirmed either by any powers that be. Furthermore, Darkseid sending his army to invade Earth sounds too much like what Marvel did with the first Avengers movie (yes, it is pretty obvious that there are many comparisons to be made between Marvel and DC).
Lastly, there is one more rumor, a most recent one, which says that a powerful and iconic DC villain will unite the heroes. And this villain will appear starting from next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It can even be said that we saw him in Man of Steel too…
According to multiple sources from the web, it will be Doomsday the one to make the heroes unite. It won’t be the same character as in the comics, but a different one. According to this rumor, Lex Luthor has acquired the corpse of Zod and began experimenting on him.
Whether willingly or not, it isn’t known – but at one point the experiments triggered a Doomsday gene in Zod, which brought him back to life, more powerful than ever.
And it makes sense having him back, although in a different form. Doomsday wouldn’t have worked too well with the comic book origins and this early in the DC Movie Universe. However, by bringing Zod back in a new form, it can be said that Zack Snyder is making up for the mistakes from Man of Steel.
Though any of these should be taken with a pinch (or spoonful) of salt, there is something that we do know about The Justice League Part One. First, we know who will direct (Zack Snyder) and who is writing the screenplay (Chris Terrio, who won an Oscar for Argo).
We also know some of the characters who will definitely appear in the movie. Obviously, Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck) will take the lead. Surprisingly, Lois Lane (Amy Adams) was also announced for the movie.
Why is it so surprising? Because the other heavy-hitters weren’t officially announced yet (although they will certainly appear in The Justice League Part One): Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Flash (Ezra Miller).
As said, there will be plenty of comparisons between DC’s Justice League and Marvel’s Avengers. And this can only mean a good thing. Since Marvel is way ahead with its cinematic universe, DC can only become more inventive as far as heroes and villains alike are concerned.
Furthermore, and this has been seen until now, DC will have to find a different way to present its shared universe. Thus, if Marvel built towards the Avengers with solo movies, DC seems to be doing the exact opposite, first bringing the Justice League and then establishing the characters (except for, obviously, Superman, who is the one that actually opened the DC Movie Universe).
It can also be noted at this point that the DC Trinity will be introduced during Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with possible cameos for other Justice League members.
Of course, since it is different and doesn’t follow a course that worked very well for others, DC and Warner Bros may be suspected of being in a hurry as far as the movie universe is concerned. But only time will tell if it is so.
The Justice League Part One stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Amy Adams and is directed by Zack Snyder. The movie is scheduled for release on the 17th of November 2017 (for the moment, Justice League is known to go only against the remake Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas).
