Well, we now know there’s going to be a new Avatar movie, because Sigourney Weaver has teased her return in the ‘Avatar’ Sequel. What? Yeah, she isn’t dead, somehow, so rejoice. Yay!
There really aren’t any details on the plot yet, but here are some cool hints from Sigourney, who is back for the sequel. [Source: MTV]
It’s always a mistake in science fiction to make these judgments on the dead. I think that the challenges to Pandora will continue. I do think that humans will be back. I also think that maybe we’ll get more of a chance to live a Na’vi life. I think we want to be in that world and I, for one, would love to be a Thanator in that world! I just think we have a big appetite for going back there, and I know that Jim will do everything he can to satisfy us and take it to even more parts of Pandora that we don’t even know exist yet.
You didn’t really see her die. What you saw was… something happen. I think that [James Cameron] wants all of this to be a surprise, but don’t buy the funeral wreath quite yet.
Cameron talked about the film to LA times during the 3D re-release of Titanic. He said:
It’s a little bit of a daunting writing task because it’s two scripts and they’ve both gotta be done at the same time. I’m writing it as separate stories that have an overall arc inclusive of the first film. I don’t want to suffer from the ‘Matrix 2′ problem, where it just ends, like, what the hell? It’s gotta end. There’s gotta be a sense of conclusion, but also a sense that the journey will continue, and that’s a fine line.
How does summer 2015 sound?
Who’s In It?
What’s Good About It?
James Cameron, the best quality 3D and CGI.
What’s Bad About It?
James Cameron, lack of original plot and interesting characters. Hey, I didn’t find the movie as incredible as everyone else.
Our Clever Prediction
I really shit the bed with my original Avatar prediction, so I’ll just state the obvious here… it’ll be huge. What a tool I was in prediction a 100 million dollar gross for Avatar.
Of course, Avatar 2 will rock.
Holy Shit 2015 Be Crazy!
2012 was a crazy year for blockbusters, what with Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, The Rehashed Spider-Man, Prometheus, and many other high-profile movies releasing that year. Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Cloud Atlas, Lincoln, Looper, God I could keep on going.
Now, 2015 seems like an even crazier year, with The Avengers 2, Star Wars XXIII, Terminator 5, another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Independence Day 2, and the planned Justice League movie (that most likely won’t happen), all set to release that year. It seems very unlikely for Avatar 2 to come out on top again, but if there’s one guy that can pull it off, it’s James Cameron. But my allegiances lie with The Avengers 2. I would love to see a good Justice League film, but we all know that’s not happening.
