Are you Here is a new dramedy about two childhood friends who roadtrip back to their childhood home when one of the friends’ dad dies.
There’s the normal buddy, and the sorta crazy one. Owen Wilson plays the normal one, Steve. He’s a weatherman, but his life is a bit bland, except for his crazy buddy, Ben, played by Zach Galifianakis. Ben’s dad dies, and they head back home together to deal with it. When they get there they come across Ben’s bitchy sister, who doesn’t think too highly of her brother. She thinks he’s a bit of a loser. But then the will is read, and Ben gets everything. Now the bitch sister tries to take her brother to court to show that he’s mentally incompetent, and the two friends have to work together to make things right.
Are you Here comes from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner. This is a bit of a departure for him, but also explains why the last few seasons of Mad Men have been sorta ho hum. He needs to focus on the show and not making movies. DANG IT. He wrote and directed the film.

Are you Here has a pretty solid cast, with a fair number of funny dudes and dudettes, and Matthew Weiner is certainly a talented writer, though I don’t associate him with comedy as much as drama. He’s a Sopranos and Mad Men guy. There are a few funny moments in those shows, but they aren’t comedies.
I question Weiner’s funniness. Then I reread that sentence and laughed for 3 straight minutes. The people in this children’s library look concerned about me…
Are you Here is coming out in theaters and On Demand the same day. It looks funny, but I don’t imagine it’ll make a whole lot of moolah. There’s a chance, but I’m thinking it’ll struggle a bit.
