Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is an adaptation of the extremely popular Playstation 3 game following the adventures of a treasure hunter seeking the lost treasure of Sir Francis Drake.
The story of the film is said to follow the first game relatively closely. The main character, Nathan Drake, is a descendent of Sir Francis Drake, and he searches for a cursed statute. Of course, he finds it but it turns out to be causing a bunch of Spanish and Nazis to turn into zombies. He has to find a way to stop his rivals from taking the statue off the island and unleashing the curse upon the world, save the girl, and maybe make a little money in the process.
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (2013) is being produced by Avi and Ari Arad. Avi Arad is the man responsible for bringing most of the Marvel universe to the big screen, with films like Spider-man, X-men, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk to his credit. So there is some experience in getting this type of project off the ground. The studio had been trying to get the film ready for summer 2011, but talks with potential director David O. Russell fell apart in the last few days (I am so on it baby) so it’ll probably be out in summer 2012.

Movie Release Date
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is now officially a 2013 movie release
Who’s In It?
Casting rumors have swirled for a while. I’ve heard Hugh Jackman was considered, but I doubt he’ll get it. I’m hoping for an unknown.
Most treasure is cursed. That’s why I never leave the Midwest. The only treasure here is my heart.
Indiana Jones, King Kong, Tomb Raider
What’s Good About It?
The Uncharted series is one of the best games out there right now. The second game was better than the first, and both have been smash hits in terms of sales. That bodes well for the film. The games are also designed to be similar to summer blockbusters like Indiana Jones, so it should work well to adapt to a film.
What’s Bad About It?
Too many unknowns right now. A bad director and a crap script will ruin this.
Our Clever Prediction
I hope they follow the tone and spirit of the game, even if they change some elements for Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. I think it has all the potential to be huge. A good lead, a good script and director and this could turn into the next Pirates of the Caribbean.
On the other hand, this is a video game adaptation. Never forget that.
