Superman: Man of Steel is the next reboot of the ultimate comic book character.
No plot details have been revealed at this time. It is known that the film will not be a sequel to Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns or of the infinitely better Richard Donner films. However we do know who the new Superman is going to be! It’s Henry Cavill, the strapping young lad who played Charles Brandon on The Tudors.
Superman: Man of Steel is being ‘godfathered’ by Batman Begins and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. The screenplay is currently being written by David Goyer, who also worked on the latest Batman films. No director has been announced at present. Nolan’s brother Jonathan may be in the running, which is odd, since he doesn’t have any directing experience. More than likely that’s just an internet rumor, but it is possible that Warner Bros would use him, as he also worked on the immensely popular Batman films.
We keep hearing rumors the movie is about Superman solving a conflict in Africa… sigh.. whatever… apparently the ‘Man Of Steel’ has nothing more pressing to do than stop two tribes from killing each other. Never mind the other issues in the world, rogue countries with nuclear weapons etc.. thanks Superman. According to Warner Brothers, Zod will be the main enemy, so that sounds cool…
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder’s new Superman film, titled “Man of Steel.”
Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
Superman: Man of Steel is currently planned for 2013.
Superman: Man of Steel is going to be played by Henry Cavill.
Diane Lane… Martha Kent
Kevin Costner… Jonathan Kent
The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane
The origin of Christopher Nolan’s involvement came when he and Goyer were working on the story for the sequel for The Dark Knight. When they needed a break from Batman, Goyer tossed out an idea for how he would handle a Superman film, which got Nolan so excited that he called Warner Bros and pitched them the idea. He is currently producing, so hopefully some of that Dark Knight magic will rub off on Superman and make it a good film.
Heh. Rub off on Superman.
Nolan and Goyer’s involvement really gives me hope. No doubt lessons have been learned from Superman Returns, and there will be some action, and an enemy that Superman can actually fight. Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod , he’s a great choice and I’m tired of Lex Luthor so this is great newes.
Superman Returns was so terrible, it’s hard to get excited for another Superman reboot. I know it will be better, it’s just.. you know… they can’t seem to get it right.
I think we’ll end up seeing the best Superman film since Donner’s from the 70’s. I just hope they do it the way Donner did. No Hollywood anti-America crap. They couldn’t even say, “Truth, Justice, and the American way,” in Superman Returns. I don’t need it to be a flag waving film, but you don’t just turn your back on Superman’s catchphrase. No doubt this will be better than the last, but that doesn’t say much.
And make his suit bright and shiny. No muted colors like in Returns.
