Oz: The Great and Powerful (2013)

I’m not sure I’d ever see the day, but its true.. they are making a prequel for The Wizard Of Oz. I’m really curious to see how people feel about this, or if you care at all?

Oz: The Great and Powerful

This new Wizard Of Oz movie is a prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) by L. Frank Baum, told from the point of view of the Wizard.

Oz: The Great and Powerful tells the story of how the Wizard arrived in Oz and how he became the ruler, etc .. all those fun things. However, Sam Raimi is running things which brings some instant credibility to the prequel, plus James Fanco and babe Mila Kunis are also in the movie.

The official plot from Disney, goes like this : {And I am quoting the release so it’s word for word}

Walt Disney Pictures’ fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

The Trailer

Movie Release Date

Oz: The Great and Powerful is coming sometime in 2013.

Pictures

Who’s In It?

James Franco and Mila Kunis.

What’s Good About It?

Sam Raimi is awesome, and I suppose the longevity of this movie could warrant a prequel. I wonder if it will breathe a new interest into the Wizard Of Oz, for the new generation?

What’s Bad About It?

I never liked The Wizard Of Oz, it creeped me out as a young boy. The characters were frightening and I found the entire film bothersome. So, making a prequel for me means nothing, I have zero interest in reliving my childhood fears.

Our Clever Prediction

You’d think anything related to The Wizard Of Oz is going to be just huge, but I’m not sure. Is this going to be for kids? That could be huge in the grand scheme of things.

    I love The Wizard of Oz! I’m quite glad at a good directer like Sam Raimi is going to be making it, but re-makes of classic films, sequels an prequels tend to be rubbish and ruin the original film. I really hope this doesn’t happen with The Wizard of Oz! :(
