One Shot is about a homicide detective who searches for the truth behind five murders, which appear to have been done by a single military sniper.
One Shot is based on Lee Child’s ninth suspense novel by the same name, and the series follows Jack Reacher, a tough ex-army cop. Reacher apparently already knows about the sniper, and knows that he’s done this before. Dun dun duh. They’re supposed to be good books. I’ll have to read them at some point.
Reacher is teamed with a beautiful (duh) young attorney and tries to track down who really committed the murder. Oh man. I am getting goosebumps.
Oh, wait. That’s a rash.
One Shot
One Shot was adapted for the screen and will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote Valkyrie, The Usual Suspects and The Way of the Gun. Not a bad writer, but he doesn’t really have much directing experience. This could be interesting.

Who’s In It?
Tom Cruise… Jack Reacher
What’s Good About It?
How cool is the name Jack Reacher? I’ll tell you.
Really cool.
The books are supposed to be pretty good, and I don’t hate Cruise, although from what I understand he isn’t exactly perfect casting, as Reacher is supposed to be a really big guy and Cruise is practically a dwarf. Oh well, he makes good action movies.
What’s Bad About It?
I’m nervous about McQuarrie’s directing ability. He’s mostly worked with Bryan Singer over the years, which may be why his films have been good.
Our Clever Prediction
I think One Shot will be pretty good, although it may be a rather standard action flick. I feel like Bruce Willis should have played Jack Reacher, and if he were in this I’d know exactly how good it’d be. Cruise gives me pause. He might make this great, or it could be more boring crap like Knight and Day.

Countless sleepless nights have been caused in part to all 16 Jack Reacher novels. I am an outright Lee Child fanatic. I love them all. I, as well as every other reader who has had the honor to read a Reacher novel has created a certain image of Jack Teacher’s character and I can guarantee that not one of those images will come close to Tom Cruise. The only similarity between the two is their sex & race. Please don’t let us down Tom! Now out of all 16 Titles, I personally would never have chosen “One Shot” as the best choice for a feature film. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great read & extremely entertaining, but there are a few more better books that should have made the cut. “The Killing Floor”, “Die Trying”, “Nothing to Lose” & “61 Hours” are in my opinion, Reacher novels that should be made into film. Well, I just hope One Shot can live up to par and makes us Jack Reacher fans proud!
Reacher is not a “homicide detective”; he is a vagabond loner who travels from place to place using skills garnered as an Army MP to straighten out bad situations and kick some butt while he’s at it. Cruise is a dissappointing choice to play him.
I have read ALL the Jack Reacher / Lee Child books and have been waiting for the first movie of this series to come out. This book “One Shot” should adapt to a movie really well – but I got one issue….Tom Cruise! Whaaatttt….not even remotely close to the Reacher character who runs in the 6′ 5″ realm and can and does intimidate people on a regular basis. Also – the other hard part is that Reacher has blonde hair! So Richard Marcinko may be been able to pull it off, or The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) or even the guy who now plays THOR, but Tom Cruise??? He’s about as intimidating as a finely groomed Pomeranian!
